City leaders and developers broke ground Friday on the first mixed-use development at the Covington Central Riverfront.
Located at the M & N blocks of the CCR site, the development will include 269 market-rate apartments, about 8,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and 133 parking spaces once complete. The buildings are expected to stand at six stories tall.
The developers are calling development “Riverstone Place.” The development agreement was the second between the city and a private developer to be secured for the CCR site, the first being Drees Homes in March 2024.
“This is exactly the kind of vibrant, walkable neighborhood we envisioned when we set out to transform this riverfront,” said Covington Mayor Ron Washington.
The site is being developed by an LLC called CCR-MN Developers, which was specifically formed for this project. It consists of several companies: the previously mentioned Silverman & Co., Messer Construction, and architectural firm KZF Design. Silverman & Co. is behind several retail and office developments in Blue Ash and is spearheading a mixed-used development in Deerfield, Ohio, called The District at Deerfield.
“We had 20 acres,” said Tim Sharp, chief strategy officer with KZF Design. “We had to weave it in with the existing buildings here to the east. This is the tallest building that’ll be built here in the early phases because we’re more and more dense as we work our way east. We are following that master plan, and I can’t wait to see it happen over the coming years.”
