A Covington Police Sergeant was injured in a downtown crash Saturday afternoon.
A vehicle traveling eastbound on Fifth Street may have run a red light or sped up to beat a changing light and collided with the sergeant’s cruiser at the intersection with Madison Avenue, Police Chief Spike Jones told The River City News, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
Multiple emergency units responded to the scene, including police, fire, and EMS.Â
Whether any one will face any charges or citations related to the crash will depend upon the investigation, Jones said.
The sergeant was treated and released from the hospital. The cruiser suffered significant damage.
