The National Weather
Service in Wilmington this morning issued a Winter Storm Watch late Saturday
through Monday afternoon for the entire Greater Cincinnati and Northern
Kentucky region.

A prolonged winter storm
expected to bring a messy wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet and more
than 6 inches of snow in and around downtown Cincinnati. Areas to the north in
Butler and Warren counties could see as much as 9 inches to a foot of snow.

At this point, the heaviest
sleet and then snow is expected to blanket the region Sunday night through
morning rush hour Monday. Travel difficulties are likely, especially early
Monday, according to the weather service.
An inch of snow mixed with a slight chance of rain is in the
forecast early Saturday through 3 p.m.

Analysis via Larry Handley/WCPO: Bottom line – A significant winter storm is taking shape that will move into the Tri-State Sunday with the worst of the conditions arriving Sunday night through Monday. It will start with rain, sleet and wet snow Sunday with minor accumulations but slick roads are expected. Travel conditions go rapidly downhill Sunday night as sleet and freezing rain slowly turn to snow. By Monday, accumulating snow will become the culprit with the models showing 6 inches to up to a foot. The ultimate totals will be highly dependent on the type of precipitation and the duration so those totals could vary greatly.
