The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Spc. Christopher A. Landis, 27, of Independence, died Feb. 10, on Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, from wounds received when the enemy attacked his dismounted patrol with a rocket propelled grenade in Kapisa Province, Afghanistan. Â

He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear will order that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the day of Spc. Landis’ interment for which arrangements are still pending.
