The following traffic issues May affect your travels this weekend around Northern Kentucky’s river cities, as documented by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet – District 6:
I-471
Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 18, traffic restrictions will be in place on I-471 southbound for final resurfacing beginning near Grand Ave (Exit 3), extending through to the US 27 intersection in Highland Heights.Â
At 10 p.m. Friday, traffic will be further reduced to a single lane near Grand to the US 27 intersection in Highland Heights until 6 a.m. Monday, October 21.Â
The entrance ramps from I-275 westbound and I-275 eastbound to I-471 southbound/US 27 may be closed periodically over the weekend.Â
Detours will not be posted and drivers are encouraged to use alternate route.Â
Long delays will be apparent on the I-471 corridor.
At Exit 1 (I-275/I-471 Interchange), traffic in the right lane may exit at Exit 1B to I-275 westbound, or continue through the interchange to US 27 in Highland Heights.
Traffic in the left lane must exit at 1A to I-275 eastbound. Shoulders are also closed in this area. This traffic pattern will continue until further notice. The speed limit through this section is 45 MPH.
Route 8
Saturday, October 19, KY 8 (Fairfield Ave./Dave Cowan Way) will be closed near The Party Source so that the City of Newport and the Army Corps of Engineers can install the floodgate to inspect. Closure will begin at 6 a.m. and continue into Sunday or until inspection is complete. Plan an alternate route.
Carothers Road
The City of Newport has begun a pavement project on KY 1892 (Carothers Road) beginning at the intersection of Pavilion Parkway, continuing west to the in/out access point for the Newport Shopping Center. Motorists should be aware of equipment, crews and lane closures. Expect delays. The project is anticipated to be complete before the Christmas Holiday.Â
Taylor Mill Rd. update
(Middle section from Sunbrite to Blackstone) Work to connect the North and South end of KY 16 has begun. Access to the Scott/Woodland Campus North entrance is along a temporary connection on Old Taylor Mill Road. Access to Lakewood Drive will be via a temporary connection and traffic will access Old Taylor Mill at the Scott/Woodland Campus north entrance. Vincent Drive and Taylor Mill Swim Club traffic will access KY 16 at Heathermoor Drive. Robertson Road is now closed to thru traffic. It is important for motorists to use caution and watch for construction traffic and flagging operations.
