Monday night/Tuesday morning’s significant weather event in Covington that included heavy rain and flash flooding forced emergency responders into action.

Between 10:30 p.m. on Monday and 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Covington Fire Department responded to thirty-five documented calls and an unknown number of undocumented calls for service. Most of the calls related to flooded basements while others involved residents being rescued from their homes on Baker Street in chest-deep water and from cars on Madison Avenue in the rapidly rising water.

The impact of the weather event impacted the department’s ability to respond due to high water. Nevertheless, the members of the Covington Fire Department responded without hesitation as did the Covington Police Department, Kenton County Emergency Dispatch, and the Department of Public Improvements.
