ABBY MOORE

Abby Moore is a natural leader in the classroom.

Abby, 18, is an outgoing student with great ideas and she is always eager to participate and share with others, said Tiffany Hornback, education and French teacher at Holmes High School.

“I love Abby’s positive and helpful attitude and her willingness to tackle any task or challenge that she faces in the classroom,’’ Ms. Hornback said. “She is upbeat and often helps to motivate her classmates when needed.’’

Abby wants to share her love of learning and return to the classroom when she completes college. She wants to become a high school history teacher.

“Being a good teacher can make a real difference in the lives of so many students,’’ Abby said. “I want to be that teacher.’’

Abby will be attending Kentucky State University, where she plans to major in secondary education. She has received scholarships to the college in Frankfort – including an $8,000 athletic scholarship for volleyball and an academic scholarship that is valued at more than $24,000 over four years. She would also like to be a volleyball coach someday.

Abby has attended Covington Schools since kindergarten, starting at Latonia Elementary School. Her advice to incoming freshmen: “Don’t think you have all the time in the world. High School goes by quick. Get ahead early.’’

Abby has been involved in many activities, including volleyball, softball, basketball, musical theatre and Future Educators of America.

Her best memory at Holmes was setting a record in volleyball for the most kills in a game. She says spiking is her specialty.

Ms. Hornback is the teacher who influenced Abby most.

“Even though it’s her first year here, she has so much enthusiasm in what she does,’’ Abby said. “She taught me that you have to love what you do.’’

Ms. Hornback said she is excited that Abby plans to pursue a career in education.

“She might not realize this yet but, she already possesses and shows many qualities each and every day that will help her to be a successful teacher in the coming years,’’ Ms. Hornback said. “I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Ms. Moore.’’
