While
imprisoned for performing illegal weddings for soldiers, Valentinus fell in
love with the jailer’s daughter and in his final love act, he passed a note to
his lover during his execution that said “from you Valentine”. Valentinus was so devoted to his lover
that he literally became a martyr and a Saint for her. My husband bought, signed, and
addressed Valentine’s cards in bulk five years ago and thinks I don’t know.
So, I will be
spending Valentine’s day at the library!
The Newport branch of the Campbell County Public Library has three
events for children this week. The
library, located at 901 E 6th St. in Newport, is holding a Mad

Or, blow off Valentine’s Day altogether and instead go see
the world-premiere of the Magical Adventures of Merlin. This performance, at the Taft Theatre,
premieres on February 15 and repeats the next day. “This world-premiere musical will introduce audiences to the
teenage wizard, Merlin, and his mysterious and magical youth. This
coming-of-age tale, will share the back story of Merlin, his boyhood friend ,–
King Arthur, and the beautiful, bewitching Morgana, as teens in mythical

If you’re one of the lucky few for whom romance isn’t dead,
then enjoy your horse-drawn carriage ride or whatever. If you’re a normal person, then enjoy
the library!
