louisville

CNN Money recently compiled a list of twenty-five cities in America that the website considers to be the best places for those looking for a new home to retire in. Two Kentucky cities made the list. Here’s what CNN Money had to say about Louisville:

Best if you’re looking for: Big city
Median home price: $116,000
Top state income tax: 6%

The first Saturday in May, all eyes are on Louisville, home to the Kentucky Derby. Yet there’s also plenty else to do and see year-round.

Residents can hear live bluegrass music, museum hop on West Main Street downtown, attend a concert or festival in the 85-acre Waterfront Park, and see local and Broadway shows in the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.

Keep in shape by biking or strolling the Louisville Loop, a pedestrian path that will eventually span more than 100 miles, connecting many of Louisville’s parks, neighborhoods, and attractions.

And here is what was said about Danville:

Best if you’re looking for: Small town
Median home price: $141,500
Top state income tax: 6%

You can’t stroll through this small town in horse country without feeling a strong connection to the past.

In Danville’s Constitution Square, delegates assembled in 1792 to proclaim Kentucky the nation’s 15th state. The original log post office still stands, as do many antebellum buildings.

Still, the town is hardly a backwater: There are plenty of microbreweries, restaurants, art galleries, and boutiques, not to mention the area’s regional medical center right in town.

For those craving extra urban amenities, Lexington and Louisville are about 40 and 80 miles away, respectively.
