The first round of the KHSAA state volleyball tournament got underway on Monday with all eight first round games being played.

Notre Dame traveled to 12th Region champion West Jessamine while Scott ventured to 11th Region champion Lexington Catholic. The Pandas won in straight sets, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-18) while the Eagles were swept by the Knights, 3-0 (25-2, 25-23, 25-22).

PANDAS

Notre Dame’s journey to win a 11th state title in program history started off with a victory in Nicholasville.

The Pandas collected 38 kills, 10 blocks, 34 assists, 72 digs and 13 aces in the match. Teagan Kondik led with 10 kills, Grace Portwood had eight, Makayla Roose with six and Katie Zwick five. Audrey Dyas and Leah Bowman had three solo blocks apiece. Lizzy Larkins got the offense going with 18 assists, Ellie Osterkamp and Dara Jackson with eight apiece. Jackson also led with 32 digs, Elise Grout with 10 and Osterkamp adding nine. Jackson had four aces, Dyas with three.

Notre Dame advances to the quarterfinals on Friday at George Rogers Clark against Bowling Green at 7:30 p.m.

The winner heads to Saturday’s semifinals at GRC at 1:30 p.m. against the North Oldham/Apollo winner.

Scott held leads of 20-18 in the second set and 10-6 in the third, but were unable to close out either in the straight set loss in Lexington.

It puts an end to their season at 29-12, winners of the 37th District in back-to-back years and the 10th Region in consecutive seasons. They stretched their unbeaten streak to 26 against 10th Region opponents and had a storybook season with records set from individuals. Milyn Minor’s latest accomplishment was the program kills record with 2,171. She was also a first team KVCA All-State selection and three-time 10th Region Player of the Year. Minor is also the program’s all-time digs leader. Ryann Grigsby was a KVCA honorable mention.

Other milestones include Payton Grigsby going over the 1,000 career digs mark, Ryann Grigsby going over 3,000 assists and setting the all-time program record and Morgan Justice going over 500 kills. Head coach Andrea Sullivan also surpassed the 500 career win mark.
