The Dixie Heights Colonels have not had an easy time scoring goals early in the season.

They may have hit a turning point as the Colonels (2-3-1) ventured to Mount Sterling and knocked off the Montgomery County Indians, 2-1. The Indians (4-3) have won four 10th Region crowns over the last five years.

“It was nice to get a win,” said Trey Crone, Dixie Heights head coach. “We’ve had a tough schedule to start the year. We’re hoping this is a step in the right direction to get us ready for two tough games coming up.”

Dixie Heights outshot Montgomery County, 20-9. Goalkeeper Brady Meyer made seven saves for the Colonels.

Austin Seng and Trevor Bolte scored the Dixie Heights goals and Donovan Lameier had an assist. Crone said Bolte’s goal came on a free kick from 25 yards out and Lameier played a ball behind the defense that Seng poked it in with his left foot.

Dixie Heights plays host to Cooper (2-1-2) at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Covington Catholic 3, Cincinnati (Ohio) McNicholas 0

The Colonels downed the visiting Rockets for their second shutout of the year.

Andrew Roland, Jack Fleck and Aiden Leach scored the goals for the Colonels (4-2-1) with Andrew VonLehman and Chris Wessels tallying assists.

Goalkeepers Lucas Short and Auggie Eilerman combined to shut out the Rockets (1-3) with five and three saves, respectively.

CovCath plays host to Ryle (3-2) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Bishop Brossart 5, Scott 1

The Mustangs downed the host Eagles in a 37th District contest.

Brossart outshot Scott, 15-2. Michael Cooney had to make just one save at goalkeeper for Brossart.

Tyler Smith scored twice and added an assist to lead the Mustangs (3-2-2) and Alex Runge tallied two assists. Landon Guidugli, Luke Alwell and Harrison Besse scored the other goals with Brennen Callahan and Carter Goodman adding assists.

Ethan Rogers scored the lone goal for the Eagles (1-4) and goalkeeper Aiden Taylor had 16 saves.

The Mustangs play host to Calvary Christian (3-4) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Scott plays host to Cincinnati (Ohio) Aiken on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The Pioneers hit the road and knocked off the Colonels in their first 8th Region game of the season.

Simon Kenton (3-1) put up 44 kills, 81 digs, three blocks and five aces in the win. Jenna Kitchens led the Pioneers with 13 kills and two blocks and Tori Chasteen had 12 kills, 24 digs and one ace. Ceanna Scalf had 13 digs and one ace with Sophie Spanier contributing 11 digs, three kills and one ace.

Sadie Rehkamp dished out 41 assists to go with 10 digs to set up the attack for Simon Kenton against Oldham County (3-1). Alisha Hawkins had nine kills and one block with Keira Hans recording seven kills and 10 digs.

Simon Kenton plays host to Ryle (2-1) on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Ryle 3, Campbell County 0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-22)

The Raiders took care of the visiting Camels for a 15th straight win in the series.

“We definitely did not start strong, so it took us a while to get into the game and figure out what we needed to,” said Tasha Lovins, Ryle head coach.

Ryle (2-1) had 56 digs, 27 kills, 20 assists and seven aces. Alexis Woolf led the way with 15 digs and Karsyn Griffin added 13 to go with a team-high three aces. Morgan Heater had 16 assists. Lucy Trapp had 15 kills with Becca Kramer and Abby Lester following with seven and five, respectively.

“We work on trying to hit line, hit cross, different tips, different shots tooling off the blockers’ hands just because you are going to come across a blocker like (Campbell County senior) Emma Manser, who is going to be really big and you have to be able to move around that,” Lester said.

Campbell County (1-2) finished with 21 kills, 27 blocks, 19 assists, 37 digs and three aces. Ella Thorwarth and Ava Crowl led Campbell County with 12 and 10 digs, respectively, and Crowl had seven assists. Hope Hamilton had 12 assists, five blocks and two aces. Lexi Scharold led the Camels with seven kills to go with five blocks with Manser recording 11 blocks and six kills.

Ryle plays at Simon Kenton (3-1) on Thursday at 7 p.m. Campbell County plays host to Holy Cross (3-0) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Notre Dame 3, Frederick Douglass 0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-18)

The Pandas stayed undefeated with a non-region home win.

The Pandas (5-0) recorded 45 kills, six blocks, 44 assists, 52 digs and four aces. Lauren Ott had 19 assists and 11 digs with Lizzy Larkins dishing 18 assists and Julia Grace digging up nine balls. Ava Tilden led the Pandas with 13 kills with Riley McCloskey recording nine kills to go with a team-high three blocks. Ava Erpenbeck tallied seven kills and Ella Goetz landed a team-high two aces.

Notre Dame travels to Sacred Heart (7-1) on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.

Conner 3, Newport Central Catholic 0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-14)

The Cougars downed the Thoroughbreds in a 9th Region game to stay undefeated.

Conner (4-0) had 34 kills, 11 blocks, 32 assists, 40 digs and 11 aces overall. Anna Hamilton led the Cougars with 10 digs and Bailey Morris had eight. Lilly Hamburg had 12 kills, six blocks and seven aces with Carly Nehus matching the effort with 12 kills. Aubrey Depenbrock had 13 assists with Jordan Ransdell recording nine.

NewCath (0-4) had five aces, 14 kills, 13 assists and 35 digs in the loss. Paytin Reckers had team-highs of seven digs and three aces. Kori Reckers had nine assists and six digs with Madison Wolf recording a team-high four kills.

Conner plays host to Scott (2-0) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Bishop Brossart 2, Holmes 0 (25-7, 25-4)

The Mustangs won their third in a row with a sound home non-region win.

Bishop Brossart (3-1) had 21 kills, 19 aces, 10 digs and 21 assists in the win against the Bulldogs (1-5). Addy Doughman led the Mustangs with six kills and Jessie Keller had six aces. CeCe Phirman added five aces and four digs.

Holmes plays host to Highlands (0-2) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Mustangs play host to Robertson County (1-3) on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the All “A” 10th Region Tournament.
