The area has seen a lot of splits with softball rematches this year.
The Campbell County Camels (17-5) earned another one, knocking off the visiting Highlands Bluebirds, 9-6 in Alexandria. Highlands won the first meeting on March 22 in Fort Thomas, 12-8.
The difference came in errors. Highlands (22-8-1) had three leading to six Campbell County unearned runs and the Camels had one leading to one Bluebirds unearned run.
Senior Paige Stewart (9-1) pitched a complete game striking out four and walked six. Stewart also doubled and had a run batted in at the plate.
The Camels batted .300 (9-for-30) overall. Freshman third baseman Hope Hamilton went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Eighth grader Josie Feebeck went 2-for-3 with a double and scored three times. Freshman shortstop Sam Perry scored twice.
Highlands batted .344 (11-for-32) overall. Eighth grade outfielder Allie Meyers went 3-for- 3 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the way. Freshman first baseman Kaitlyn Dixon went 2-for-3 scoring once with junior Bailey Markus batting in two. Freshman outfielder Cam Markus tripled and had one RBI.
Senior Carly Cramer (4-2) started the game pitching four innings striking out two and walking one. Bailey Markus finished it striking out one and walking three.
Campbell County concludes the regular season with a home game against Conner on Friday at 5 p.m. Highlands begins 36th District play Monday at Newport’s Vets Field against either Newport or Bellevue.

The visiting Camels (25-9) knocked off the Pioneers in extra innings in non-region action.
Both teams committed two errors. But the Camels scored three unearned runs to one for the Pioneers (22-10).
Campbell County scored the game-winning run with two outs in the top of the ninth. Senior third baseman Evan Clark singled and advanced to third when senior first baseman Braden Kramer reached on an error bringing up junior catcher Parker Schweitzer. Clark scored when the Camels executed a double steal.
The Camels batted .278 (10-for-36) overall. Clark and Kramer both went 2-for-4, scoring one run each with Kramer batting in one. Sophomore Zach Franzen went 2-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and scored twice. Senior right fielder Brayden Wells went 2-for-4 with one run scored. Sophomore center fielder Carson Clark drew two walks and scored twice.
The Camels used four pitchers. Franzen (4-0) pitched the seventh and eighth striking out two to earn the win. Senior Jake Gross pitched the ninth to earn his third save this year.
Simon Kenton batted .211 (8-for-38) overall. Senior Dakota Brown went 2-for-5 to lead the way and senior third baseman Gavin Riley doubled and scored twice. Junior catcher Chad Atchley batted in two.
Brown started and pitched five innings, striking out one and walking four. Junior Daniel Uhl (0-1) pitched the last four innings, striking out one and walking none.
Campbell County plays host to Lloyd Memorial (14-16) on Friday at 5 p.m. Simon Kenton plays host to Collins (20-13) on Friday at 6:15 p.m.
