On Sept. 17, in a regular-season matchup, Bishop Brossart suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Campbell County, despite jumping out to a 3-0 lead.
That setback added fuel to the fire Thursday night in Alexandria at the Mustang Athletic Complex, as the Lady ’Stangs (18-2-3) shut out the Lady Camels 2-0 to capture their third straight 37th District Championship.
“As always, those games are tough,” Brossart head coach Andy Smith said. “One team could be more talented and the other still beat them. That’s how it is. You never know with these two, and tonight we kept the clean sheet and came out on top.”
The win was anchored by goalkeeper and tournament MVP Maddie Broering, who delivered a standout performance, including a key penalty kick save early in the second half that kept Campbell County (12-7-2) off the board.

“She’s the foundation of our defense,” Smith said. “The save on the PK was brilliant. You don’t see many better than that in high school soccer. Fantastic, all-around great kid. The defense stepped up today with the shutout and that’s what we try to do every game. Super proud.”
Offensively, it was the underclassmen who stepped up. Freshman Rylee Fuller opened the scoring in the 28th minute, and sophomore Kylie Smith sealed the win with her 35th goal of the season midway through the second half. The team had a total of 11 shots on goal.
The 10th Region Tournament will take place at Harrison County High School, featuring district champions Campbell County, Harrison County, and Bourbon County. The runner-ups — Bishop Brossart, Mason County, and Montgomery County — round out the six-team field.
