The Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak against the Indians, grabbing the second seed in the district tournament.

Beechwood had 50 kills, 45 assists, eight aces, 49 digs and seven blocks in the win. Macy Armstrong led the Tigers (22-10) with 13 kills and one block. Rachel Lewandowski had 12 kills, three blocks and two aces with Isabel O’Brien recording 12 digs and 11 kills. Skylr Estep had 45 assists, two aces and six digs with Emma Pabst recording six digs.

“Our middles outperformed everybody,” said Matt Long, Beechwood head coach. “You would think we would not go to the middle when (Holy Cross 6-2 standout middle blocker Julia) Hunt is there. We still kind of tested the waters and it worked out for us, especially when she got to the back row.”

Holy Cross (23-10) put up 39 kills, eight blocks, eight aces and 55 digs. Hunt led the way with 29 kills, eight blocks, four aces and eight digs. Lucy Lenihan had 27 assists, two aces and five digs with Luci Wurtz tallying 10 digs, three kills and one ace. Camille Lowe had six kills and Olivia Gangwish had 15 digs.

“We knew Julia was going to get a bunch of big kills so the thing I was trying to get through my head was try to get a block up if I could,” Lewandowski said. “I just had to know I could not get myself down if I didn’t. I just did what I could on offense and defense. I also tried to lift everyone else up.”

Beechwood plays host to Scott (19-13) on Monday at 7 p.m. Holy Cross plays at Cooper (11-17) on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Campbell County 3, Bishop Brossart 0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-20)

The Camels snatched the top seed in the 37th District Tournament to be played at Bishop Brossart in a few weeks with the convincing win, not allowing a county opponent to come to their home gym and win for the second time in two days after Newport Central Catholic won there on Wednesday.

“We turned that down real quick,” said Mikah Freppon, Campbell County head coach. “The difference between (Wednesday) to (Thursday) was just a completely different team. I saw the fight in their eyes. I saw they were on the court. I saw the reason why they wanted to win. I saw the reason why they love the sport. We sat down before the game and talked about what we need to work on, how big this game is to us and what we needed to get done. We stepped on that court and got it done right away. We did not stop until that score was 25 us. I’m very proud of this team.”

Campbell County (14-12) saw Emma Manser and Ella Thorwarth put together strong games. Thorwath had 10 digs, six assists and two aces. Manser had seven kills and the other two Camel aces.

The Camels had 33 digs, 33 assists, 33 kills, four aces and five blocks. Lexi Scharold had 13 kills with A lon McIntyre and Lola Haun digging up nine and seven balls respectively. Hope Hamilton and Ava Crowl tallied 17 and 10 assists respectively.

“I think (the serve reception) was a lot better,” Crowl said. “I think the communication overall was 10 times better than (Wednesday) so that definitely helped. We had to have a quick-thinking mentality, letting that point go and learning from your mistakes. But also don’t let it happen again and don’t let it stay in your head.”

Brossart (19-11) had 48 digs, 20 kills, 20 assists, five assisted blocks and two aces in the loss. Maddie Kremer had 17 digs and two aces to lead the Mustangs with Kate Neltner digging up 10 balls. Aubrey Rebholz had 13 assists and nine digs. Parker and Callie Ritter had five kills each to lead Brossart.

Campbell County concludes the season on Tuesday at Harrison County (24-8) at 6:30 p.m.

Scott 2, Harrison County 1 (22-25, 25-10, 32-30)

The Eagles rallied to beat the Fillies in a home 10th Region battle.

Milyn Minor and Brooklyn Helm led the comeback effort with 19 and 15 kills respectively to go with 13 digs and one solo block each. But head coach Andrea Sullivan credited Helm for powering through Scott’s third game in three days, helping Scott to its fourth straight win.

“I think we all wanted this win. I think the energy helped with everything,” Helm said. “I had a meeting with Coach Sullivan (on Wednesday) and we talked about me stepping up. That was what I was focused on for this game. I think we take (her coaching) positively and work harder.”

Scott (19-13) had 53 kills, seven blocks, six aces, 43 assists and 59 digs in the win. Payton Grigsby 14 digs with Brooke Balsley recording nine kills and two solo blocks. Morgan Justice had two aces and three solo blocks with Elise Manhardt recording two aces and nine digs. Setter Ryann Grigsby had 41 assists.

“It’s tough at the end of the season to play three matches in a row – probably poor scheduling on my part,” Sullivan said. “But it’s something where we have to find a way to win. We have to be resilient. We have a lot of new faces in the starting line-up. We’re trying to find ways to battle through some of our youngness that comes out, some of our immaturity comes out. It’s moments like that where you see what you have. We had other girls step up and make big plays for us at big moments.”

Scott travels to Beechwood (22-10) on Monday at 7 p.m.
