Deadlocked at 0-0 going into halftime, Covington Catholic (5-3) scored 17 unanswered points out of the break in defeating the visitors from Indianapolis.
Cash Harney threw for 164 yards and a touchdown and ran for 118 more in the victory. Dylan Gaiser added 73 yards rushing and a score while Owen Pitzer caught the touchdown pass.
The Colonels defense bended, but didn’t break for the majority, allowing 296 yards. Cathedral’s (5-3) first points didn’t come until Van Krisilof’s 24-yard field goal with 7:17 remaining. Cathedral added a touchdown with 2:09 remaining.
CovCath hosts Harrison County next week.
Elder (OH) 40, Highlands 16
The Bluebirds (6-2) trip to The Pit turned sour quickly.
Elder (8-0) got four touchdown runs from Tommy Becker and a Mason Chumbley 82-yard interception return swung the momentum of the game to make it 20-3 before halftime. It was one of three Highlands interceptions on the night.
Turnovers overshadowed Highlands’ 385 yards of offense as Rio Litmer threw for 267 yards in defeat. John Feldbrugge snagged eight passes for 98 yards and a touchdown, Tayden Lorenzen providing the other touchdown on the ground.
Highlands returns to district play next week when they play at Mason County.
Simon Kenton 35, Great Crossing 16
The Pioneers scored 13 points in the final 2:52 to pull away from the visiting Warhawks (1-6) in Independence.
Landon Brown’s 26-yard touchdown run gave the Pioneers a 28-16 advantage, Jordan Pendleton following with an interception return for a score with 1:42 to play.
Grant Webb threw for a touchdown and ran for two as the Pioneers signal-caller. The win gives Simon Kenton a 4-3 record overall and off on the right foot in district play at 1-0. They host Campbell County next week.

Boone County 36, Scott 28 (OT)
The Rebels won their first district game since 2016 with an overtime victory in Florence.
Boone County improved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in district play. The win almost ensures them a playoff berth, which would be their first time reaching the postseason since 2018. The four wins is their most in a season since 2021, when they also won four games. They host Dixie Heights next week.
Scott dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in district play. They’ll have to win next week at home against Cooper and then at Conner the following week to have a shot at the postseason.
Lloyd Memorial 41, Henry County 6
Kaleb Evans connected on 15-of-18 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns as the Juggernauts rolled to an 8-0 record.
Colten Barger had a big night receiving, catching seven passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Avery Conrad added 74 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns on just four carries. Barger added a rushing touchdown, as did Isaiah Jones.
The Juggernaut defense held Henry County (3-4) to 142 yards and forced two turnovers. Lincoln Tomlinson and Conrad had interceptions. Lloyd tallied eight tackles for loss and four sacks, Stanley Smith with 1.5, Ryan Miller and DeMareon Peterson with a sack each.
Lloyd gets a bye next week before playing at Carroll County on Oct. 24.
