Cooper 48, Boone County 14
The Jaguars traversed US42 for a district encounter with the Columbia Blue and gray clad Rebels of Boone County.Â
Cooper (9-0) is now a game away from an undefeated regular season after racing out to a 41-0 lead in the second quarter and then turned the wheel over to the reserves in the second half.Â
Jaidan Combs tallied two touchdowns on a reception and punt return, while Keagan Maher had an efficient night on the ground and found pay dirt three times in the first half. The Jaguars defense continually set the offense up throughout the first half with advantageous field position.
Maher carried seven times for 61 yards with touchdown runs of seven, eight and three yards while Combs had three receptions for 51 yards. Cam O’Hara finished with a passing line of 8-for-9 passing, 124 yards and two touchdowns in one half of play.
Boone’s Jayden Jackson had a productive night with 11 carries for 110 yards with one touchdown and two receptions for 90 yards, including taking a screen pass 84 yards for a touchdown. Â
Cooper closes out their regular season at Dixie and the Rebels (2-6) travel to Conner.
Covington Catholic 56, Harrison County 6
The Colonels scored 35 points in the first 13:11 of the game to cruise down in Cynthiana.
Cash Harney hit on 4-of-5 passes for 93 yards and a score while also running for 80 yards and a touchdown. Dylan Gaiser had three carries in the contest, tallying 108 yards and two touchdowns.
The reserves did most of the rest as the Colonels rushed for seven touchdowns and won their sixth straight game (6-2, 3-0).
Will Danneman and Owen Pitzer had interceptions for the defense, allowing just 68 yards on the night.
The Colonels return home next week in a matchup against Mason County that will determine the Class 4A, 5th District champion.
Beechwood 61, Carroll County 0
The Tigers havent’s allowed a touchdown in 10 straight district games now.
Clay Hayden completed 8-of-9 passes for 197 yards and five touchdowns, Chase Flaherty, Kyle Ritter and Nathan Parton combined to rush for four touchdowns and Beechwood (8-1, 4-0) continues to roll in district play.
Luke Erdman caught two touchdown passes, James Cusick, Nathan Pabst and Bo Sowder caught one apiece.
Brody Waddell and Kolten Craycraft had an interception on defense.
Beechwood plays at Bracken County next week. The winner gets the district title and a No. 1 seed for the postseason.
Newport 39, Bellevue 12
Kyle Lee threw for 355 yards and six touchdowns as the Wildcats (5-2, 1-1) got back on the winning track.
Adonaje Lowe was the biggest beneficiary of Lee’s passing, catching five passes for 126 yards and three touchdowns. Rodzion Thompson, Kendall Buck-Barber and DaShawn Anderson also had receiving touchdowns.
Thompson and Buck-Barber also had interceptions in the district victory. Newport clinches a home playoff game with a win over Dayton next week.
Bellevue (4-3, 1-1) plays Newport Central Catholic at Dixie Heights next week.
Lexington Catholic 23, Lloyd Memorial 14
The Juggernauts led 7-6 at halftime and 14-6 in the third before the Knights finished the game with 17 unanswered
Kaleb Evans threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns, Isaiah Sebastian with four catches for 85 yards and a touchdown, Tyler Copeland also hauling in a touchdown reception.
Lloyd struggled in the run game, collecting just 16 yards on 21 carries.
Lloyd’s defense rose to the occasion, forcing five turnovers with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Copeland, Sebastian and Alijah Griffin had interceptions, Billy Lewis and Avery Conrad with fumble recoveries. Jaxon Fann (12 tackles), Sebastian (11 tackles) and Conrad (10 tackles) had double-digit tackles.
Lloyd Memorial (6-2, 1-1) had its six-game winning streak snapped. They’ll play at Bourbon County next week for a chance at a home playoff game. Lexington Catholic (2-6, 2-0) clinched the district title with the victory.
