The Kentucky High School Football Media Poll is conducted by 16 sports journalists throughout the state, with one representative for each of the 16 basketball regions in order to provide geographical balance. The poll will be released each Wednesday morning throughout the regular season.
In the fifth edition of the media poll, three northern Kentucky teams picked up first place votes in their respective class. Cooper held firm at No. 1 in 5A after their three-point victory over Highlands on Saturday. Ryle picked up a first place vote in 6A, but stayed put in the No. 6 spot in the class coming off a bye week and will face No. 3 St. Xavier this week. Beechwood snagged a first place vote in 2A, staying put in the No. 2 spot behind Owensboro Catholic.
Covington Catholic remained at No. 5 in 4A while Lloyd Memorial stays at No. 9 in 3A. Newport Central Catholic dropped two spots to No. 8 in 1A after their third straight loss, Newport remaining at No. 9 in 1A despite their 39-7 loss to Lloyd.
Conner made their top 10 debut in 5A, the Cougars riding a four-game winning streak headed into their showdown with No. 1 Cooper on Thursday.
Simon Kenton (6A), Campbell County (6A), Bishop Brossart (1A) and Ludlow (1A) appeared in the others receiving votes category.
