The KHSAA Bass Fishing State Tournament presented by UK HealthCare was held on Friday and Saturday at Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley in Calvert City.
A total of 81 boys teams and 20 girls teams participated in the tournament.
Covington Catholic’s Eli Scroggins and Drew Berling finished fifth in the two-day event. They caught five bass on day one, three on day two. Their day one weight total was 13 pounds, 13 ounces, which put them in fourth place after the first day. Their day two total was eight pounds, five ounces, giving them a two-day total weight of 22 pounds, two ounces. Their biggest bass caught was four pounds, two ounces, the fourth biggest bass caught in the tournament.
It’s quite the improvement from last season when Scroggins and Berling finished 49th with six bass for 10 pounds, three ounces.
Muhlenberg County’s Karson Stone and Levi Simms won the championship with a two-day total of 32 pounds, 14 ounces. Trigg County’s Gavin Schrock and Cash King were runner up with 26 pounds, five ounces worth of bass.
Bishop Brossart’s Cooper Lackey and Paxton Litmer were the only other Northern Kentucky competitors in the event, placing 48th with a two-day total of seven pounds, four ounces.
Montgomery County’s Kenleigh French and Emma Branham won the girls title with a two-day bass total of 12 pounds, 13 ounces. No Northern Kentucky girls teams competed in the event.
