The Northern Kentucky women’s basketball team earned their biggest win of the season to date taking down Wright State, 77-63 on Saturday.

NKU moved to 9-16 overall and 7-9 in Horizon League play with the win. The Norse have won five of six to take over sole possession of eighth place in the conference. The sixth, seventh and eighth seeds host first round games in the Horizon League Tournament in March. More importanly, it puts NKU 1.5 games out of the fourth spot in the conference, meaning a first round bye and a postseason home game.

Khamari Mitchell-Steen led the Norse making 10-of-14 shots from the field and 9-of-12 free throws on her way to a season-high 30 points. Center Carter McCray tallied another double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to aid the cause as Northern Kentucky outscored Wright State, 42-30 in the paint.

The Norse put four players in double figures, shooting 48% from the field. Kailee Davis and Macey Blevins followed with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Northern Kentucky only turned the ball over 10 times while recording nine steals off 15 Raider turnovers. Mitchell-Steen led the Norse with five steals and Noelle Hubert had two.

Rachel Loobie and Alexis Hutchison torched Northern Kentucky for 24 points each in Wright State’s 90-83 win at Truist Arena on Jan. 20. Loobie scored 13 and Hutchison scored 10 in the Norse win Saturday and Kacee Baumhower scored 13. Wright State is 15-13 overall and 9-8 in league play.

Northern Kentucky hosts Purdue-Fort Wayne on Wednesday at 7 p.m. They’ll then close out their home slate on Saturday against Youngstown State at 2 p.m.
