A Fort Wright swim club had to temporarily close its doors Wednesday due to what was described as a “fecal accident.”
The Bluegrass Swim Club, located at 101 Bluegrass Ave. in Fort Wright, announced on Facebook that the pool would be closed from July 28 to July 29 at 4 p.m. The swim club is usually open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
“This is the 4th one so far this season and it seems very excessive,” the Bluegrass Swim Club wrote in a Facebook post. “Please be aware of your children and their bathroom needs.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advise that if someone defecates in a swimming pool, the pool should be closed immediately while staff remove the fecal matter using a net or bucket. Operators should then ensure the filtration system is running and disinfect the water by maintaining a free chlorine level of at least 2 parts per million and a pH of 7.5 or lower for at least 30 minutes in the case of formed stool.
