The Mustangs are back in the title hunt.

After missing out on the district championship the last two seasons, Bishop Brossart turned things around with a 48-37 win over Scott, securing their spot in Thursday night’s championship game.

For a team that finished last season at 3-26, capped by a 39-point semifinal loss to the Eagles, the ‘Stangs were set on rewriting their story.

“It means a lot to us,” Bishop Brossart coach Ben Franzen said. “After the season we had last year, coming in here, grinding it out, sticking together, and getting a team win was a great feeling.”

In a game that was neck-and-neck throughout, the Mustangs seized their chance as Scott went cold from the field.

With the game still tight at 25-22 near the four-minute mark of the third quarter, the Eagles managed just 15 points the rest of the way.

“Baskets eluded us,” Scott coach Steve Fromeyer said. “At the end of the day, it’s momentum. Thursday night against Harrison County, those shots were falling for us. When shots go in that way, it elevates everything you do. The momentum started carrying them and credit to them, they played really well.”

As the Eagles cut the deficit to eight down the stretch, Brossart senior and returning player Parker Mulberry stepped up, scoring the final six points of his 20 total to secure the victory.

“I’m a senior so I knew this could be my last game,” Mulberry said. “I think the us three seniors brought more intensity and it helped us. We were getting rebounds and making plays we haven’t made all year.”

The intensity in the gym was undeniable, affecting both teams—for better or worse.

“Replacing eight kids off last year’s team, this is the first time these kids have played in an atmosphere like that,” Fromeyer said. “They were prepared as they could be and they were loose, it just came down to the baskets and foul trouble, but that’s not an excuse.”

Early on, the Eagles weren’t overly worried about their shots falling. All-Tournament team member Jordan Clemons led with 12 points and knocked down two early 3-pointers giving Scott a 14-11 advantage.

With some foul trouble affecting the Mustangs, they turned to their bench, and the players did not disappoint.

“We had guys step up,” Franzen said. “Carson Hesse, Drew Steffen didn’t score a whole lot, but he made good plays for us. We had a couple guys in foul trouble, but we fought through it.”

Hesse brought in nine points, all in the second-half.

Bishop Brossart held a 24-20 lead at halftime, and despite the Eagles cutting it to one, the Mustangs never trailed again. They stretched their advantage to 34-26 by the end of the third quarter and increased the lead to 12 late in the game.

With Scott unable to overcome the margin, the Eagles’ season comes to an end with a 10-17 record.

Campbell County 73, Calvary Christian 45

It’s business as usual for the Camels.

Campbell County is heading to the 37th District Championship after taking down Calvary Christian 73-45 in the semifinal matchup.

Fueled by three players in double figures—Xavier Fancher with 16 points, freshman Austin Davie with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Garyn Jackson with 13—the Camels jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

The Cougars stayed within striking distance early, trailing 21-11 after the first quarter. However, a dominant 17-6 second-quarter run pushed Campbell County’s lead to 38-17 at halftime. The Camels kept their foot on the gas, enforcing a running clock by the end of the third at 59-24.

Campbell received key contributions from their bench to finish strong, with freshman Xander Guy adding seven points. The Camels secured their 23rd consecutive district tournament win, dating back to 2014.

Sophomore Peyton Morris earned a spot on the All-Tournament team for Calvary.

The Cougars’ season comes to a close with a 17-14 record, while Campbell improves to 21-9 as they advance to the title game.
