The City BBQ Classic pitted two Campbell County teams against one another and then Newport took on the No. 1 team in the state, St. Xavier out of Louisville on Sunday.
Campbell County and Highlands met for a boy-girl doubleheader leading into St. Xavier-Newport.
The Campbell County girls won the opener, 58-51, paced by Izzy Jayasuriya’s 22 points. Kendall Augsback added 12 in the victory.

In the boys game, Highlands took down Campbell County, 76-51. The Bluebirds shot 53% from the field and were led by Nathan Rickard’s 21 points in the victory.
He was one of four in double figures as Tayden Lorenzen added 15 points, Finn Bouldin with 14 and Vincent Listerman with 11.

Then in the nightcap, the No. 1 Tigers prevailed over the Wildcats, 68-61. Newport was paced by Amontae Lowe and James Turner with 16 points apiece. Griffin Starks added 13 points, DaShawn Anderson with 11.
