The Dixie Heights at Walton-Verona boys game lived up to the hype with the host Bearcats pulling off a 78-76 overtime win.
Aaron Gutman torched the nets for 31 points making 9-of-11 free throws to lead Walton-Verona. Julian Dixon scored 15 with Landon Bach and Zach Smith scoring 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Dixie Heights put five players in double figures. Jaxson Gray and Griffen Derry led the way scoring 17 points each. Hudson Blank, Owen Niehues and Max Rubemeyer scored 15, 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Walton-Verona (20-8) travels to Newport Central Catholic on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Dixie Heights (15-10) saw their five-game winning streak snapped. They travel to Covington Catholic on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Boys Basketball
Scott 59, Holy Cross 55
The Eagles snapped their six-game losing streak on the road in non-region action.
Xarek Sarakatsannis scored 21 points to lead Scott. Connor Griffin and Dylan Giffen followed scoring 17 and 13 points, respectively.
“Last week was a tough week. We played three really good teams,” Scott head coach Steve Fromeyer said. “It’s such a long year. This should technically be the last week of the season but there’s an extra week because of the way the calendar fell. We’re to that point of the year where you’re losing some legs. I gave them the weekend off just to reboot and we had a good day (Monday). It was important for the guys to zero back in.”
Nate Rominger led Holy Cross with 17 points with Gavin Goetz contributing 10.
Scott (12-15) hosts the Cincinnati Trailblazers Home School (Ohio) squad on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Holy Cross (14-11) travels to Highlands on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Simon Kenton 52, Boone County 39
The Pioneers continue to play their best basketball down the final stretch of the regular season and earned a solid road win at Boone County.
They held the Rebels to 36% shooting and 13 turnovers.
Jordan Bach led the Pioneers with 15 points, Jay Bilton adding 13 points and Bode Stone and Brayden Polley combined to pull down 24 rebounds, 11 of them offensive bords.
Boone County was led by Maddox Jones with 17 points, Elijah Bodkin chipping in 10.
Simon Kenton (12-14) will look to make it five of six when they travel to Anderson County on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
The Rebels (16-7) look to bounce back Thursday when they host Archbishop McNicholas (Ohio) at 7:30 p.m.
Beechwood 58, St. Henry 50
The Tigers won their sixth straight with a road victory at St. Henry.
They were led by Carson Blackburn with 27 points as he hit 10-of-12 from the field. Jack Sullivan added 12 points and four assists while Owen McCormack chipped in eight points. Austin Navin added six points and eight rebounds while Quinn Eviston’s stat line produced five points, five rebounds and four assists.
The Tigers (14-12) will look to make it seven in a row when they host Campbell County on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
St. Henry (9-15) was led by Caden Kuntsek with 14 points. Andrew Reis added 10 points. The Crusaders host the Cincinnati Trailblazers homeschool team on Friday at 7 p.m.
Campbell County 79, Pendleton County 41
The Camels won their fifth straight as they improved to 9-2 in 10th Region play.
Connor Weinel led with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, Xavier Fancher adding 13 points and Garyn Jackson tossing in 12. The Camels shot 52% from the field in the victory and hit 9-of-11 from the free throw line.
Campbell County (19-6) looks to stay hot at Beechwood on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The Jaguars won their fourth straight venturing to the Hill and doubling up the hosts.
Logan Palmer led Cooper with 23 points. Liz Freihofer and Addyson Brissey followed with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Maddy McFarland made five 3-pointers on her way to 17 points to lead NewCath. Caroline Eaglin added 10.
Cooper (22-4) hosts DuPont Manual on Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Catherine Buddenberg scored 27 points including the game-winning three free throws in the closing seconds of the game as the Colonels topped the Camels.
Buddenberg scored 13 in the fourth as Dixie Heights trailed 48-42 entering the final stanza. Abby Thelen added 13 points, Avery Moore chipping in 12 in the victory.
Campbell County was paced by Isabella Jayasuriya with 15 points. Madeline Barbian scored 14 points and Stella Brockman added 10 points.

Sydni Massey poured in 24 points as Bellevue has won three in a row and seven of nine.
