Walton-Verona trailed 35-30 at halftime against the host Grant County Braves, but came back to win 73-70 to nab the undisputed top seed in the 32nd District Tournament, finishing 3-0 in district seed play.

Aaron Gutman led the way scoring 29 points. Zach Smith and Julian Dixon followed scoring 17 and 10 points, respectively.

Walton-Verona (19-7) has won four in a row. The Bearcats travel to Spencer County on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game.

Boys Basketball

Newport 73, Newport Central Catholic 51

The host Wildcats rolled to their 15th straight win, finishing 4-0 in 36th District seed play.

Newport dished out 19 assists to just six turnovers while NewCath recorded 10 assists and turned the ball over 13 times. Newport outscored the visitors, 15-2 in points off turnovers.

The Wildcats also shot 50% from the field compared to 34% for the Thoroughbreds. Jabari Covington led Newport with 22 points. Taylen Kinney and James Turner followed with 20 and eight points, respectively.

Ian Mann and Louis Collopy led NewCath with 14 points each.

Newport (23-3) hosts Conner on Friday at 6 p.m.

NewCath (7-17) hosts Cooper on Saturday.

Beechwood 63, Ludlow 36

The Tigers shot a blistering 57% from the field earning the 9th Region win.

Jack Sullivan led Beechwood with 14 points and Carson Blackburn scored 10. Owen McCormack and Kingston Brockett added eight each as 10 different Tigers scored.

Gage Grider led Ludlow with 12 points.

Beechwood (11-12) hosts Holy Cross on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in a 35th District seed game for the No. 2 seed.

Ludlow (13-11) plays Heritage Academy in the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Classic semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m.

Girls Basketball

St. Henry 36, Lloyd Memorial 27

The Crusaders took the second seed in the 34th District Tournament with the home win.

Jayne Knollman led St. Henry with 10 points and Kayla Unkraut scored eight.

Keirstyn Young led Lloyd Memorial with eight points.

St. Henry (13-9) hosts Great Crossing on Friday at 8 p.m.

Lloyd Memorial (10-13) hosts Highlands on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Notre Dame 65, Beechwood 20

The Pandas dominated the 35th District seed game, recording 20 steals off 27 Tiger turnovers. Erin McGraw led Notre Dame with five thefts and Ryan Burden had three.

Sophia Gibson led Notre Dame with 18 points and Riley Eberhard had eight.

Charley Connarroe led Beechwood with eight points.

Notre Dame (18-5) hosts St. Henry on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Beechwood (7-17) plays at Newport on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Ludlow 46, Bellevue 44

The host Panthers edged the Tigers in a 9th Region battle.

Addy Garrett scored 25 points to lead Ludlow and Prestyn King scored 13.

Sydni Massey led Bellevue with 20 points.

Ludlow (15-10) plays Dayton on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the NKAC Classic.

Bellevue (16-7) also plays in the NKAC Classic over the weekend.
