The host Simon Kenton boys took down Oldham County, 79-70, a day after the Colonels defeated who many consider the top team in the 8th Region, North Oldham.

Travis Krohman led the way scoring 24 points making three 3-pointers. Jay Bilton scored 18 points and Bode Stone added 16.

Simon Kenton (9-13) travels to Grant County on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., for a game with 32nd District seeding implications.

Boys Basketball

Walton-Verona 86, Owen County 59

The Walton-Verona boys dominated the Owen County Rebels making 14 three-pointers.

Aaron Gutman led the charge making 14 shots including three 3-pointers for 33 points. Zach Smith and Landon Bach followed with 17 points each.

Walton-Verona (17-7) travels to Williamstown on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Conner 73, Mason County 65

The Cougars went on the road and took down the Royals for a fourth straight win.

Conner shot 51% from the field including 45% from three-point range and hit 14-of-16 free throws.

The Cougars put four players in double figures led by Finn Louden with 22 points and five assists. Landon Warner and Brady Bushman scored 16 points each and Tyler Warner scored 11. Landon Warner also grabbed nine rebounds.

Conner (7-14) hosts South Dearborn (Indiana) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

George Rogers Clark 73, Scott 57

The Eagles could not tame the four-time defending 10th Region champions at home.

Xarek Sarakatsannis led Scott with 12 points. Dylan Giffen, Connor Griffin and Jon Evans scored 10 points each.

Scott (11-12) travels to Ryle on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Beechwood 60, Holmes 51

The Tigers earned a 35th District victory led by Jack Sullivan with 24 points and eight rebounds.

Owen McCormack added 14 points while freshman Tyler Fryman and Kingston Brockett added four points apiece, Fryman pulling down six rebounds.

Beechwood (10-12) plays at Ludlow on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Holmes (1-13) plays at Bracken County on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The Thoroughbreds hit the 15-win plateau behind another impressive performance from Caroline Eaglin with 26 points.

Alaina Albrinck added nine points on three 3-pointers and Jaylee Brannen scored eight as nine different Thoroughbreds scored.

NewCath (15-7) travels to Bellevue on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Beechwood (7-15) travels to Boone County on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Ryle 53, Scott 37

The Raiders handled the Eagles for the non-region win.

Ryle was led by Sarah Baker pouring in 18 points. Quinn Eubank followed with 17 points and Jaelyn Jones scored nine.

Kaia Peterson led Scott with 15 points, but no one else scored more than seven.

Ryle (14-7) has won four in a row and travels to Conner on Monday at 7 p.m.

Scott (15-8) hosts Bishop Brossart on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Dayton 62, Newport 51

Zoe Sparks led three players in double figures as Dayton picked up a 36th District victory.

Tayah Smith added 17 points and Axie Jimenez chipped in 10. The Greendevils pulled down 57 rebounds in the contest, Lanaya Torres leading the way with 13, Sparks and Aaliyah Hull pulling down 10 apiece.

Dayton (6-17) returns to action on Monday in the NKAC Classic against an opponent to be determined.

Newport (3-18) was led by DeAyjah White with 18 points and 13 rebounds, Amariana Cook with 15 points. Rebounding was a key in this one, Dayton grabbing 24 more than the Wildcats. Newport returns to action on Saturday against North Oldham at home at 3:30 p.m.
