The Bishop Brossart Mustangs used balanced scoring to win the Ryan Keeton ExP Realty Ohio River Classic at Raceland, 63-48 over St. Joseph Central (West Virginia).

Brossart’s Greylee Kramer lead the way scoring 15 points and Kylie Smith scored 14.

“I think the kids have really started to trust each others’ abilities,” Brossart head coach Steve Brown said. “We’ve changed kind of the way we played a little bit from the past. It starts with our defense and our defense has done a really good job as far that goes. Hopefully, it gets us going toward the All “A” Tournament. We play Nicholas County in the first round and we played them (at Raceland) and played them pretty well.”

Brown called junior guard Zoey Woosley the team’s player of the game after she scored 10 points to go with seven steals, five assists and six rebounds. Zoee Meyers also contributed to the defensive effort for Brossart with eight points, six rebounds, eight assists and five steals.

“You can’t really just watch the player itself. You have to keep your eye on the ball and the player even when they don’t have the ball,” Woosley said. “You also have to jump to the ball to be sure to cut your player off and I think we do that very well. Your other teammates need to realize that too if it’s coming to your player and you can’t see that. For me when I’m on the ball, my teammates do a really good job calling out screens and telling me to jump a certain way so we can switch easier.”

Brossart (10-2) plays at Roger Bacon (Ohio) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Scott 42, Louisville Holy Cross 37

The Eagles edged the Cougars to win the 4 Bank Winter Classic at Garrard County in a defensive battle.

“It was a battle. It’s been a long few weeks for our girls,” Scott assistant coach Jacob Parsons said. “We played seven games all on the road and travel has been a lot for us. We didn’t shoot very well, but the girls found a way to get the ball inside, finish lay-ups and get to the free-throw line and make them when they counted.”

Kaia Peterson led a balanced Scott scoring attack with 15 points and Ariana Patterson scored eight.

“Playing good defense is what helps us get through if we’re not knocking down our shots,” Patterson said. “It’s about sticking together and figuring out what works best for us. It contributes to our offense when we run the floor.”
