Newport Independent Schools announced the hire of its new athletic director, Zach Rechtin.
Rechtin has worked with Newport Independent Schools since 2023, supervising its 21st Century after-school and summer programming.
“We are thrilled to have him step into this new leadership role,” said Newport Superintendent Matt Atkins.
Rechtin holds a degree in recreation and fitness with a minor in business from the University of Kentucky. He began his career in Newport, spending five years with the Boys and Girls Club, and has since worked across law enforcement, non-profits, fundraising and education.
In 2014, Rechtin started and coached the boys’ soccer team at Beechwood High School, where the youngest of his three sons just graduated. Rechtin and his wife are also becoming Newport residents later this summer.
