The scoreboard operator in Taylor Mill will get a little bit of a break now.
Scott High School has named Dustin Trimnell the next football coach of the program.
Trimnell comes over from Bellevue, where he was the defensive coordinator under Chad Montgomery the past couple of seasons. Prior to that, he was an assistant at Newport Central Catholic under Stephen Lickert and also spent time assisting at Dayton, his alma mater.
“It’s hard to put into words,” Trimnell said. “It’s something when you’re a young coach you dream about. Everything starts to set in and now it’s my turn to do things that I say I always thought I could do.”
Trimnell takes over an Eagles program looking for stability, as he becomes the fifth coach since 2022.
“Dustin brings a lot of energy to the program,” Eagles Athletic Director Casey Fisk said. “He is excited to get working with the team. Â His motivation is infectious. Â The players will hit the ground running with him Tuesday. Â Scott High School and the community are going to be blown away at the plans he has as he takes over our program.”
Things will look different for the Eagles moving forward under Trimnell. With his defensive background, don’t expect Scott to come out playing a fast tempo like they did the prior two seasons under Justin Franklin.
“The goal is to surround myself with a staff that can bring in a mentality of doing things differently,” Trimnell said. “We’ll grind out the clock, play good defense and put us into the best chances to win. We can’t get into shootouts with the teams we play. We’ll slow it down and do things in an exciting way.”
The Eagles will be more defensive minded and Trimell’s track record proves that. He guided a Bellevue defense last season that led Class A in takeaways with 32 in 11 games played.
Trimnell is a teacher at Prince of Peace School, where he teaches social studies.
He plans to have a parent meeting with the team in Monday evening.
“Stability will be the toughest battle. Football is football, the biggest hurdle starting is convincing these kids and families that I am here for the long haul,” Trimnell said. “Yesterday I called every parent from freshman to junior class to invite them to a meet and greet tonight. It has to be proven with action, not words.”
Scott is coming off a 3-7 season, missing the playoffs for a third straight season. Since they we realigned to Class 5A and the 6th District, they’ve gone 11-30 with one postseason appearance over the last four seasons. From 2015-21 while they were in Class 4A, they went 44-36 with eight playoff wins.
“We’ll do it with effort, attitude and toughness,” Trimnell said. “Some things we can’t control, but we can control that.”
