The LINK nky Team of the Week for August 25-31 presented by Ortho Cincy is the Holy Cross football team.
A bonus for the Holy Cross football team is that they are now eligible for Team of the Season (TOS) for the fall sports season. The weekly nominations and winners will run in to November. A vote will follow for TOS when the fall sports season is wrapped up to determine the winner. The winner for TOS will then be one of three nominees for Team of the Year voting in June. Each TOS winner will receive a $500 scholarship that will go to an athlete of their choice and they will then be considered for Team of the Year (TOY).
For the team that is awarded TOY, online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year. The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.
HOLY CROSS FOOTBALL
The Indians are off to their first 2-0 start since 2016 after a thrilling 25-24 victory over Bracken County.
Despite struggling offensively, the Indians used their special teams and opportunistic defense to their path to victory. Max Hunt returned an onside kick attempt for a touchdown while Gabriel Romito hit both of his extra-point attempts and a field goal. Charles Oglesby also scored on a two-point conversion, extra-point attempts and two-point conversions proving critical as they held the Polar Bears 0-for-4 on such attempts.
Dustin Wilson led the Indians defense with 10 tackles, an interception and fumble recovery. Thomas Maddox also had a fumble recovery and Jacob Rieselman forced one of the fumbles. Oglesby had nine tackles, one of them for loss and Braylon Thornberry added eight tackles.
The Indians improved to 3-0 with a 45-15 victory over Clermont Northeastern (Ohio) on Friday for the first time in program history.
