The Fifth Region girls lacrosse championship was held on Monday evening at Cooper High School, Notre Dame Academy taking down the host Lady Jaguars, 16-8.

Both teams advance to the state tournament, playing on Wednesday. Notre Dame will host Sixth Region runner-up South Oldham at 7 p.m., Cooper plays at Sixth Region champion Oldham County at 7 p.m.

Notre Dame’s (15-1) stats from the game were unavailable on the KHSAA website. Of note, senior midfielder Hannah Powers scored seven goals in the contest and broke the school record for goals in a season, currently with 87, the previous record was 86.

Cooper (8-8) was led by Samantha Sandefur with four goals, Madison Reinert and Lucy Hermann had two goals apiece. Talia Yurjevich assisted on two of the goals while Maggie Milburn had 12 saves in goal. The 16-8 loss was an improvement from their 14-3 setback to Notre Dame on April 16.
