Nominations are reader-submitted or recommended by our sports team. Our Team of the Week program honors all local sports at all levels, whether it’s youth or adult-oriented recreation, high school or college, professional or amateur.
The new school year has added to the awards program. OrthoCincy Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and LINK nky are excited to expand in addition to the weekly winners, the program will be including three winners for Team of the Season and one overall winner for Team of the Year for the 2024-25 sports seasons.
New this year for the program is the addition of the Team of the Season (TOTS) and Team of the Year (TOTY) awards. Sports seasons are considered fall, winter and spring for the purpose of this awards program. At the conclusion of each sports season, an overall TOTS winner will be chosen from all previous TOTW winners for that season. Their school will also receive a $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year.
Finally, the program culminates by selecting one TOTY from the three TOTS award winners. Online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year.
The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.

COVINGTON CATHOLIC BOWLING

The Covington Catholic bowling team finished second at the KHSAA state tournament on Feb. 10 at Kingpin Lanes in Jeffersontown.Â
After being seeded 10th in the qualifying round, the Colonels won three matchups over Franklin County, Central Hardin and Apollo before falling to Trinity in the championship.Â
WALTON-VERONA GIRLS WRESTLING

Walton-Verona’s girls wrestling team was the top NKY finisher at the regional wrestling tournament over the weekend with 88.5 points and finishing fourth.
Emma Moore and Sophie Anderson won individual region titles.
CONNER GIRLS BASKETBALL

After a 2-10 start to the season, the Conner girls basketball team has turned things around in the second half of the season.
They’ve gone 7-6 since, including a 2-1 week last week with wins over Ludlow and Owen County.
Rhys Everett posted a pair of double-doubles in the two victories, the eighth grader had 13 points and 14 rebounds in the victory over Ludlow and 17 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Owen. Izelee Kerns posted 21 points in the win over Ludlow, Cara Fay with eight points and 11 rebounds. Kerns and Alexis Craddock added 13 points in the win over Owen.
Conner hopes to continue the momentum in the final week of the regular season into the postseason with two final regular season contests against Scott County on Tuesday and St. Henry on Thursday.
LLOYD MEMORIAL BOYS BASKETBALL

The Juggernauts are rolling as the regular season is coming to a close. They’ve won nine straight games, including a 3-0 week last week with wins over Highlands, Cincinnati Trailblazers (Ohio) and Collins. They won the three games by an average margin of 20.3 points.
The winning streak has their record currently at 20-6 with one regular season game remaining against Conner at home on Thursday.
Four players hit double figures in the win over Highlands, led by EJ Walker with 26 points and 17 rebounds. Anthony Blaackar had 25, Jayden Humphrey adding 12 and Elijah Collins chipping in 11. Carter Bresser almost made it five Juggernauts in double figures with nine points.
Walker poured in 30 with 14 rebounds in the win over Cincinnati Trailblazers, Blaackar adding 13.
Walker made it a third double-double of the week with 21 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Collins. Humphrey added 11 points.
