LINK nky is once again excited to partner with OrthoCincy Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and announce the highly popular Team of the Week and Team of the Season awards are back for 2025-26 sports seasons!

The LINK nky Team of the Week for Jan. 12-18 presented by Ortho Cincy is the Walton-Verona girls basketball team.

Walton-Verona came out on top with nearly 50% of the vote in earning the honors.

A bonus for the Walton-Verona girls basketball team is that they are now eligible for Team of the Season (TOS) for the winter sports season. Bellevue’s football team won Team of the Season for the fall, Simon Kenton’s archery team, Ludlow’s girls basketball team, Conner’s boys basketball team, Dixie Heights boys basketball team, Scott’s swim and dive team, Newport Central Catholic boys basketball team and now the Walton-Verona girls basketball team are the first seven team of the week winners for the winter sports season that will run up through February. A vote will follow for TOS when the winter sports season is wrapped up to determine the winner. Then we’ll turn to spring sports in the middle of March. Each TOS winner will receive a $500 scholarship that will go to an athlete of their choice and they will then be considered for Team of the Year (TOY). Voting will take place for TOY once the spring sports TOS is determined.

For the team that is awarded TOY, online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year. The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.

WALTON-VERONA GIRLS BASKETBALL

A day after seeing the boys win the 8th Region All “A” title, the Walton-Verona girls followed suit with a dominating victory over Eminence on Jan. 18. It was their sixth regional All “A” title since 2018.

Braylin Terrell was named Tournament MVP while Campbell Christy, Ava Fuller, Elin Logue and Ava Hargett made the All-Tournament team.

They then made the trip to the All “A” Classic state tournament, where they lost in the first round to the eventual champion, Danville Christian. They’ll look to get back on track in a key 32nd District battle against Simon Kenton on Monday.

Congratulations to our other nominees as well: Bishop Brossart boys and girls basketball, Holy Cross girls basketball, Beechwood boys basketball and Walton-Verona girls basketball.
