RAMAGE LATEST LOCAL AWARDED LAROSA’S MVP
Cooper High School senior golfer Reagan Ramage is the latest northern Kentucky athlete taking home a LaRosa’s MVP award. LaRosa’s made the announcement on Tuesday. A LaRosa’s winner comes out every week beginning in August. Ramage is the fourth area athlete earning the award among the nine total winners. Previous 2024 awardees: Beechwood’s Clay Hayden, Campbell County’s Olivia Holbrook and Covington Catholic’s Will Sheets.
Here is a condensed version of Ramage’s LaRosa’s MVP bio:

“One of Northern Kentucky’s finest golfers is Cooper senior Reagan Ramage, who is this year’s Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference champion. She has been the individual regional medalist five years in a row. Success on the links began early. She qualified for the state tournament as a seventh grader. Then, as an eighth grader, she was medalist with a 78 at the 7th Region championships. She led the Jaguars to a first-ever regional title and a berth in the state tournament. History repeated itself her sophomore year. Reagan was individual medalist at the regional championships and the Jags were the team champs. She was first-team all-state. During the summer, she was co-medalist during the qualifying tournament at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships.
“Reagan tied for fourth place at the Kentucky state tournament last season and earned first-team all-state honors. She was a finalist for the Greater Cincinnati Golfer of the Year by the Cincinnati High School Sports Awards organization. In the summer prior to her senior season, Reagan competed in the American Junior Golf Association’s Kenton County Junior Open. She also played in the Kentucky Golf Association Women’s Stroke Play Championship, where she finished as tournament runner-up.
“A good student who is active in community service, Reagan in her spare time enjoys drawing, painting and writing. She will play her college golf at Western Kentucky University.”
Said Cooper coach Joe Deters: “Reagan is the ultimate competitor who never gives in on the golf course. She has extremely high expectations of herself every day.”
The awarding of Ramage follows four consecutive Ohio high school winners. The last previous northern Kentucky LaRosa’s MVP is Beechwood’s Hayden on Sept. 17 for exploits with the football team. Hayden marked the third straight area honoree that week. Holbrook won the Sept. 10 honor for cross country and track. Sheets was the Sept. 3 awardee for cross country and track and LaRosa’s first choice of the season from northern Kentucky.

COVCATH FOOTBALL TURNING 60 IN 2025

Next year will be the 60th year of football at Covington Catholic, which began in 1966. The school fielded reserve teams under head coach Steve Rasso that year. A freshman team and a junior varsity team comprised of sophomores suited up in 1966. The freshman team finished 3-4 and the JV squad was 2-4-2. The first CovCath football victory of any kind was a 13-6 JV win over Holmes in 1966.
Covington Catholic’s first varsity football team debuted in 1967 in coach Rasso’s second and final season at the school. The Colonels finished 5-4-1. Rasso moved on to LaSalle in Cincinnati and later coached at Mariemont and St. Xavier. His replacement was Tony Lanham for the 1968 season and the Colonels finished 6-4. Lanham also led CovCath to a state golf championship.
