The Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting seven new members at the February meeting to be held Feb. 21 at the Gardens of Park Hills at 1 p.m.

The seven to be inducted are Becky Houston (Holy Cross), Bill Curley (Holmes), Mary Jo Hussey Meek, Matt Guy (Campbell County), Richard Tyler (Lloyd Memorial), Todd Houston (Holy Cross) and Troy Houston (Holy Cross).

Here is a brief bio on each, submitted by Buddy Dittus.

BECKY HOUSTON

Houston graduated from Holy Cross in 1989 and played several sports including cross country, softball, basketball and volleyball. She was a standout basketball player with over 1,000 career points and named to the All-District and All-Region teams in 1989.

In volleyball, she tallied over 2,000 career kills and was named to several All-star teams. She helped lead the Indians to the state semis and was named All-District, All-Region, All-State and Player of the Year in the state in ’89.

Houston went on to play at the University of Louisville in volleyball. She then got into coaching at Holy Cross, starting in 2006 and has coached for 18 seasons with over 200 victories, several district titles, regional titles and two All “A” state titles.

BILL CURLEY

Curley graduated from Holmes in 1975 and was a three-sport standout in track, football and basketball.

He broke the school record in discus and won region twice in discus and finished sixth at state his senior year. In football he was named to the All-Conference defensive team his senior year and was voted most athletic by his high school mates in ’75.

MARY JO HUSSEY-MEEK

Hussey-Meek stood out in softball and then later on in golf.

Her success on the golf course included the Summit Hills Country women’s club champion for 10 years in a row, won the Northern Kentucky senior title five times, NKY amateur, Kentucky Post championship, Olde hickory Club championship in Fort Myers, Florida five times.

MATT GUY

Guy is a 1988 Campbell County grad and got involved in cornhole after being considered one of the best horseshoe players in the state.

He started his career in 2010 in the American Cornhole Organization where he was nine-time ACO World champion and a four-time ACO World Doubles champion.

He then was recruited to the American Cornhole League and was again the World Singles Champion and the World Doubles champion. He is the all-time winningest player in both leagues. He was named the ACO player of the year 10 different times. He also was the ACL Rookie of the year in 2020

The President of the American Cornhole League has called Matt the best cornhole player ever and they refer to him on the ESPN broadcast as the GOAT.

RICHARD TYLER

Tyler graduated from Lloyd Memorial in 1983 and coached for 26 years from the elementary school level to high school.

He was the Arnett Elementary School basketball coach from 1985-86, then again from 1999-2001. He then went on to coach Tichenor Middle School basketball from 1986-88, while at Tichenor he also served as Middle School Cheerleading sponsor from 1990-94.

Tyler then moved on to Lloyd Memorial High School, serving as the head basketball coach from 1985-97.

He was the Erlanger-Elsmere Elementary Asst. Athletics Director from 1992-95, then he was the Athletics Director from 1995-2021. He has also been a Dixie Heights basketball assistant coach from 2001-07 and a Cooper assistant coach from 2008-10.

TODD HOUSTON

Houston graduated from Holy Cross in 1991 and played basketball, soccer and golf for the Indians.

In soccer, he led the region in goals in 1989 and helped the Indians reach the region finals where he was later named to the NKY All-Star team.

In basketball as a sophomore he played a part for the region runner-up and then averaged 17.7 points per game his junior year. His senior year he averaged 18 points per game for the ’91 region champs and named to the All-Tournament team in both the region and state tournament.

TROY HOUSTON

Houston graduated from Holy Cross in 1989 where he was the heart and soul od the program from 1987-89.

During his time with the Indians, they went 70-26 and he was named honorable mention All-State in both his junior and senior years. He finished with 2,055 career points and helped lead Holy Cross to a district title in 1988 and a region final in 1989.

Troy was also an excellent baseball player. In 1989 he batted .523 and pitched a no-hitter against Holmes. He was named first team All-Region after both his Junior and Senior seasons.
