The Ryle boys basketball team has a shot at the top seed in the 33rd District Tournament after holding off Conner, 61-58. Originally slated for Friday night, the game was postponed to Saturday in Hebron due to the snowfall.

Landon Lorms put up a strong game with 26 points. Anthony Coppola and Jonathan DeGroff followed with 15 and 10, respectively.

Ryle (11-6) has won five in a row and travels to Beechwood on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. game.

Conner (3-14) has lost seven in a row, three of the losses by three points or less. The Cougars host Simon Kenton on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Simon Kenton 87, Henry County 60

Travis Krohman set a single-game program record with 48 points in the Pioneers victory. The prior record was set by Kelly Niece with 47 points against Owen County on March 12, 2021.

Krohman went 15-for-25 from the field, 8-of-13 from the 3-point line and hit all 10 of his free throw attempts. Krohman missed the first five games of the season due to injury and has played in 13 games since, the Pioneers going 7-6 over that timeframe after an 0-5 start. He’s averaging a shade over 16 points per game since his return.

Simon Kenton (7-11) returns to action on Tuesday at Conner at 7 p.m.

Highlands 76, Newport Central Catholic 71

The Bluebirds held off the Thoroughbreds in a big 36th District showdown.

Nathan Vinson scored 23 points to lead Highlands and Brayden Moeves scored 16. Lincoln Hicks and Vinny Listerman followed with 14 and 11, respectively as the Bluebirds made eight 3-pointers and 14-of-20 free throws.

NewCath gave itself a chance making 12 three-pointers. Louie Collopy made six 3-pointers on his way to tying Ian Mann for the team-high of 18 points. Caleb Eaglin followed with 16 and JJ Luhn scored eight.

Highlands (10-9) sits at 1-1 in district play and has the upper-hand for the No. 2 seed. They still have Dayton and Bellevue on the district slate, if they win those two, they’ll clinch the No. 2 seed. Their next contest is a home matchup with Bishop Brossart on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

NewCath (6-13) dropped to 2-1 in district play with Newport still on the docket. They hit the court again on Tuesday at St. Henry at 7:30 p.m.

Covington Catholic 85, DeSales 81

Covington Catholic ventured to Louisville and came away with a road win.

The Colonels shot 54% from the field in the victory and 55% from the 3-point line as it was a tight one throughout. CovCath also won the rebounding battle, 33-23 and hit 14-of-20 from the line.

Brady Hussey made six 3-pointers on his way to 27 points with Caden Miller recording another double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Athens McGillis followed with 16 points with Cash Harney, Donovan Bradshaw and Nolan Ruthsatz scoring eight each.

CovCath (15-4) has won eight in a row. The Colonels host Cooper on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Ludlow 87, Heritage Academy 63

The Panthers won their fourth in a row and seven of eight with a balanced scoring attack as four hit double figures.

Elijah Perrin led the way with 28 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, Spencer Brandenburg had 22 points and eight rebounds, Joseph Scott with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds and Byron Conley with 13 points.

The Panthers dominated the boards with a 55-30 rebounding edge.

Elisha Schulz had 20 points to pace the Eagles, adding 13 rebounds while Cade Holtman chipped in 13 points.

Ludlow (11-8) hopes to continue their winning ways on Tuesday at Villa Madonna at 7:30 p.m., Heritage Academy (6-9) hosts Calvary Christian on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Newport snapped a nine-game losing streak with the rivalry win.

DeAyjah White led Newport with 19 points. Amariana Cook and Maleaha Thompson followed with nine each.

Holmes put two players in double figures. India Tye scored 18 points and Anjali Faehr scored 12.

Newport (3-13) travels to Newport Central Catholic on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game.

Holmes (2-19) treks to Notre Dame on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. game.

Cooper 59, Pickerington Central (Ohio) 53

The free throw line made a big difference as the Jaguars hit 15-of-20 attempts and Pick Central went to the line just five times, hitting four.

Cooper forced Pickerington Central into 13 turnovers while committing eight turnovers and outscored the Tigers, 15-8 off those turnovers.

Cooper put three players in double figures. Logan Palmer led the way scoring 25 points and hit 10-of-14 from the field. Haylee Noel and Liz Freihofer scored 12 and 11, respectively.

The Jaguars (17-3) have won 14 in a row. They’ll put their winning streak to the test later this week when they play in the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament. They’ll play on Thursday in the quarterfinals with a double bye. If they win that, it potentially sets up a semifinal matchup with the No. 1 team in the state on Friday against Sacred Heart.

Ryle 48, Bullitt East 35

The Raiders snapped a three-game losing streak with their defense in the Raatz Fence/O’Sheas Classic at Mercy in Louisville.

Ryle won the rebounding battle, 44-28 and held the Chargers to just 28% from the field defensively. Quinn Eubank had a double-double of 14 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Raiders and Jaelyn Jones made four 3-pointers on her way to 22 points with five steals.

Ryle (11-7) takes on Highlands at Truist Arena in Highland Heights on Friday at 6 p.m.

Dixie Heights 44, Ursuline Academy (Ohio) 37

The Colonels took down the Girls Greater Catholic League opponent for their fifth straight win.

Catherine Buddenberg again led the way scoring 13 points. Bella Crawford added 10 and Jalynn Brooks scored eight.

Dixie Heights (10-8) hosts Lloyd Memorial on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Holy Cross 66, Beechwood 13

The Indians put together another solid defensive performance, holding the host Tigers to just four field goals in the second meeting between the two 35th District rivals this year.

Julia Hunt and Aumani Nelson led Holy Cross with 12 points each. Aaliyah Hayes and Miyah Wimzie scored nine each as nine different Indians scored.

Holy Cross (15-5) takes on Whitefield Academy to open the All “A” State Tournament on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at The Corbin Arena.

Beechwood (5-12) has lost five in a row and played six straight games without leading scorer Riley Boyd. The Tigers travel to Scott on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Ludlow 44, Bethel-Tate 42 (Ohio)

Ludlow edged the Ohio opponent for its fourth straight win and seventh in their last eight games.

Addy Garrett led the way scoring near her average with 15 points and Ava Hoffmeister scored 10.

The Panthers made enough free throws to win the game at 13-for-21 for 62%.

Ludlow (12-7) hosts Villa Madonna on Monday at 6 p.m.

Scott 70, Bellevue 51

The Eagles snapped a three-game losing streak with the road win.

Kaia Peterson and Nakiah Mejia led the way scoring 18 points each. Peterson added seven steals and six rebounds with Mejia adding five rebounds.

Scott (12-6) hosts Beechwood on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Bellevue (12-5) hosts Bracken County on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
