CAMPBELL COUNTY BOYS BASKETBALL

Campbell County is off to a 5-1 start and went 2-0 last week with victories over Highlands (61-54) and Bishop Brossart (78-47).
In the win over Highlands, Connor Weinel led the way with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Broc Sorgenfrei added 19 points and Nathan Smith chipped in nine. Getting them off on the right foot in district play was thanks to a balanced effort with five Camels hitting double figure scoring. Sorgenfrei and Garyn Jackson had 16 points each, Weinel with 15, William Johnson 11 and Smith with 10.
The Camels earned another 37th District victory on Monday with a 93-41 victory over Calvary Christian. They’ll hope to move to 6-1 with a home game against Ashland on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
COOPER CHEERLEADING

The Jaguars won the first Competitive Cheer state trophy since the Union school opened in 2008. It’s also the third state title in any sport – the girls bowling team won the team title in 2021, and Ranelle Ulanday finished first in singles the same year.
Next for Cooper: the Universal Cheerleaders Association national tournament Feb. 9-12 at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
Cooper edged Somerset, 95.50-94.90, to win the All-Girls Medium Division. The Jaguars’ score was also better than Pikeville’s 94.20 in All-Girls Small and Bullitt East’s 93.80 in All-Girls Super.
BELLEVUE GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Tigers are off to a 5-1 start and went 2-0 last week in wins over Ludlow (62-36) and Dayton (62-42).
They had four players reach double figures in the win over Ludlow, Jaylah Dowell leading the way with 19 points. Paulina Long, Ally MacPherson and Jaydah Dowell all had 10 points apiece. Sydni Massey had eight points with a team-high 13 rebounds. Massey paced the team in scoring in the win over Dayton, collecting 17 points. Jaylah Dowell added 12 points, Taytem Sorrell with 11. Paulina Long just missed a double-double with eight points and 13 rebounds.
Bellevue will look to go 6-1 with a game at Boone County on Tuesday.
COOPER ARCHERY

Cooper won the Dixie Heights Winter Solstice Shootout with a team score of 3,279, defeating the 10-team field by 40 points, Highlands finishing in second with a 3,239.
Top archers for Cooper were Brayden Nevels and Kayson Stone with top five finishes. Nevels was the top high school boys finisher with a score of 286. Stone was third overall in the high school boys division with a 284. Baylee Hamm was the top girls finisher for Cooper, placing third in the high school girls division with a 279. Jillian Cottrell (278) placed sixth in the high school girls division for the top 10 finishers on Cooper’s team.
RYLE WRESTLING

The Raiders won the Campbell County Invite over the weekend with a score of 168, defeating the 10-team field by 25 points, Elder (Ohio) coming in second place.
Winners were Bryant Brinkman in the 101-pound weight class and Noah Crisp in the 150-pound weight class while Asher Crisp (70-pound), Landon Hensley (210-pound) and David Rojas (285-pound) collected second place finishes. Peyton Brinkman (95-pound), Wyatt Crisp (122-pound), Dakota Lonkard (185-pound) and Spencer Beck (285-pound) placed third.
