The Kentucky High School Athletic Association held their first board of control meeting of the academic school year on Tuesday with cross country and track and field realignment being one of the main points discussed.

The board approved the new draft realignment that affects some Northern Kentucky schools.

Here is a look at the realignment of regions that include Northern Kentucky schools.

Class 1A, Region 4: Beechwood, Bellevue, Bishop Brossart, Holy Cross, Ludlow, Newport, Newport Central Catholic, St. Henry, Villa Madonna, Walton-Verona, Williamstown

Class 2A, Region 4: Bourbon County, Covington Catholic, Franklin County, Harrison County, Holmes, Lexington Catholic, Lloyd Memorial, Pendleton County, Western Hills

Class 3A, Region 5: Boone County, Campbell County, Conner, Dixie Heights, Grant County, Highlands, Notre Dame, Ryle, Scott, Simon Kenton

Other matters discussed at Tuesday’s board of control meeting in Newport:

-Baseball and softball seasons moved back to previous formats, avoiding the overlap of track and field and state tennis tournaments. Under the approved format, baseball and softball region tournaments will be scheduled for the week of Memorial Day and drive the remainder of championship scheduling. Both the baseball and softball regular seasons will continue to start nine weeks prior to district postseason competition and include 36 games each.

-The Board moved to eliminate wholesale options to “play up” (and resulting options to “play down”) in class for the sports of football, cross country and track and field. Any appeals shall be geographically based and only due to geographic isolation from other teams in the class.
