COOPER GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM

Cooper repeated in the Ninth Region with victories over Newport Central Catholic (75-23) in the quarterfinals, Notre Dame (53-30) in the semifinals and then Ryle (48-42) in the championship to return to Rupp Arena in Lexington for the Sweet 16.
The Jaguars were the most dominant team in region play all season long, winning all 14 of their Ninth Region contests by an average margin of victory of 25.6 points per game.
Liz Freihofer earned Ninth Region tournament MVP honors while Whitney Lind and Kay Freihofer were named to the All-Tournament team. Cooper now heads to the state tournament to face Sixth Region champion Mercy on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
The Jaguars enter the tournament with a 29-3 record and finished the final statewide media rankings No. 3 in the poll.
SIMON KENTON GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM

Simon Kenton caught the Eighth Region by surprise, winning the region tournament and returning to Rupp Arena for the first time since 2018.
The Pioneers defeated Owen County ( 50-46) in the quarterfinals, South Oldham (59-46) in the semifinals and Grant County (66-55) in the championship, avenging two losses to the Braves over the course of the season.
First year coach Brenden Stowers took over for his dad Jeff this season and while they had their ups and downs with a young roster and a 16-14 record, but put it all together at Gallatin County for the Eighth Region tournament.
Haylie Webb won the Eighth Region tournament MVP while Brynli Pernell, Anna Kelch and Megan Gadzala made the All-Tournament team. Simon Kenton will face Second Region champ Henderson County in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
BISHOP BROSSART GIRLS INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD TEAM
Bishop Brossart’s girls strong showing earned them runner-up in the KTCCCA Class A meet in Louisville on Sunday with 75 points, 15 points shy of first-place Lexington Chrisitan Academy.
They got first place finishes from Chloe Hein in the long jump (16-04,75) and the 4Ă—400 relay team (4:19.20). Other strong finishes placing in the top three were Miranda Csordas second place in the high jump (4-08) and third place in the triple jump (31-10), Anna Curtsinger second place in the pole vault (8-00), Chloe Hein third place in the 60-meter dash (8.46) and 200 meters (26.97) and the 4×800 relay team in third place (10:24.83).
The indoor season is a good transition as teams will now focus on the outdoor season over the next few months.
ST. HENRY BOYS INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD TEAM
St. Henry’s boys had the top showing from NKY schools in the KTCCCA boys Class A state meet, finishing second with 52.5 points.
The Crusaders got five top three finishes on the day, Al Bessler placing second in the high jump (6-02), third in the long jump (19-5.5), and third in the triple jump (39-04.5). Josh Brockman was second in the pole vault (10-06) and Sean Ihrig was third in the shot put (42-04).
