The LINK nky Team of the Week for January 2-8 presented by OrthoCincy is the Bishop Brossart boys basketball team.
With more than 5,000 votes, the Mustangs took 56.8% of the vote to earn the honors. They were followed by the Cooper archery team with over 3,000 votes and a 37% share.
BISHOP BROSSART MUSTANGS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM
Bishop Brossart reclaimed the 10th Region All “A” Classic tournament trophy and brought it back to Alexandria after triumphs over Nicholas County, Calvary Christian and Paris in the tournament. The Mustangs earned their berth to Eastern Kentucky University for the All “A” state tournament that starts on Thursday as they open up with Hazard at 6:30 p.m. at Alumni Coliseum in Richmond.
It almost never happened if it weren’t for Mason Sepate’s clutch 3-pointer to send the Mustangs into overtime against Nicholas County in the quarterfinals. Sepate and the Mustangs prevailed in overtime and then disposed of Calvary Christian in the semifinals.
Paris would be a tough test on their home floor in the title tilt, but Brossart shot 62% percent from the field in the victory and got double figure scoring from five seniors led by Logan Woosley with 20 points. Luke Schumacher added 13, Brandon Bezold with 12, Anthony Kruse chipping in 11 and Sepate with 10.
The Mustangs are currently 12-6 on the season with a final tune-up against Highlands on Monday before they head to the All “A”.
