This is Louie Caporusso’s second year playing with the Cincinnati Cyclones.

The Erlanger resident and assistant captain is happy to have found a home base in Northern Kentucky, where he said he loves his neighbors and how welcoming everyone is.

“What I love about it is probably just how nice all the neighbors are,” he said at Cyclones Media Day on Monday. “I come from Toronto where it’s a big city feel and you don’t always have that neighborly love. Just from the moment I’ve moved in I’ve become already so close with my neighbors.”

Caporusso’s brother lives in Fort Thomas, which he said is one of the big reasons he moved to Northern Kentucky.

The family hadn’t moved to the area just yet when they started looking for a house, but Caporusso’s brother went to scout homes. They purchased a home, sight unseen, after his brother thought it would work.

“I have a family with two children and we needed a house and there was a house that popped up in Erlanger,” Caporusso said.

The rest is history.

As for hockey, Caporusso thinks the team is going to have a good year.

“It seems like — knock on wood — like we’re gonna have a really good squad this year,” he said. “It looks like we’re going to have a really successful season.”

As for the crowds, Caporusso is a fan.

“I think we have one of the best crowds in the league,” he said. We have one of the best facilities in the league. It’s got a good vibe to it.”

Caporusso said most of the people he talks to who have come to a game say they had a great time.

“You’re not paying a lot either compared to an NFL game or an MLB game,” he said.

OK so let’s get to the good stuff: What does Caporusso like to do in Northern Kentucky?

“We’ve found a really good church — we go to 7 Hills Church in Florence,” he said. “It’s one of our favorite spots.”

The kids go to school in the Fort Mitchell area, and he said there are lots of good spots to go walk or hike.

“We also like to go eat at Camporosso in Fort Mitchell,” he said.

The family also enjoyed The Hive in Erlanger.

“It felt like you were in a home kind of,” Caporusso said. “It’s really cool. The kids were running around and causing a disaster so I hope [Erlanger mayor and owner of The Hive Jessica Fette] didn’t remember us. But the food was incredible and the scenery was great and we just hopped across the street and went bowling and had a great night.”

As for what he would like to say to the people of Northern Kentucky?

“I really enjoy being a part of the community,” he said. “Come out, support us if you can, and I’ll try to help put Northern Kentucky on the map.”
