Campbell County 49, Dixie Heights 19
The Campbell County Camels under first-year head coach Brian Weinrich took another step forward knocking off the Dixie Heights Colonels, 49-19 for their first Class 6A, District 6 win since 2019.
Campbell County (4-5 overall, 1-3 district) outgained Dixie Heights, 403-217 in total offense. The Camels scored 27 unanswered points in the second quarter to go up 35-6 at halftime.
Junior Nathan Smith led the Camels rushing for 206 yards on 20 carries and four touchdowns. Junior running back Joe Amato had 19 carries for 97 yards and two touchdowns.
Junior Brach Rice again started at quarterback for the Colonels (2-7, 0-3). He ran for 66 yards and completed 9 of 20 passes for 108 yards and one touchdown.
Both teams play Friday in non-district play before entering the playoffs. Dixie Heights travels to Scott (4-5) for a 7 p.m. game and Campbell County travels to undefeated Corbin at the same time.
Covington Catholic 42, Conner 3
The Colonels (7-2, 3-1) bounced back from the home loss to Highlands with a convincing win over the Cougars (2-7, 1-3).
CovCath outgained Conner, 419-157 in total offense. Senior quarterback Zacc Roberts led CovCath completing 13 of 17 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns. Junior running back Owen Leen rushed for 89 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns.
CovCath travels to Ryle (5-3) on Friday for a 7 p.m. game. Conner travels to George Rogers Clark (6-3) for a 7:30 p.m. game.
Lloyd Memorial 47, Holy Cross 13
The Juggernauts (6-3, 2-1) pounded the Indians (2-7, 1-2) to conclude Class 2A, District 6 play and will play host to a playoff game.
Lloyd Memorial outgained Holy Cross, 343-237 in total offense including a 292-32 advantage on the ground. Senior running back Kaiden Zulager once again led the way rushing for 132 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns.
Lloyd Memorial plays host to Holmes (6-3) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Holy Cross plays host to Ludlow (3-6) at the same time.
Walton-Verona 35, Trimble County 8
The Bearcats (8-2, 5-0) wrapped up an undefeated run in Class 2A, District 5 action with the home win.
Walton-Verona outgained Trimble County, 246-183 in total offense including 114-84 through the air. Junior quarterback Jackson Smith completed 7 of 15 passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 55 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
The Bearcats led just 14-8 at halftime. But they scored three touchdowns in the second half to pull away.
Walton-Verona has the bye week before playing host to a playoff game Nov. 4.
