Beechwood won its 25th game in a row on Friday night, which now includes two wins over Paintsville from eastern Kentucky with last night’s 46-7 thrashing. Four different Beechwood players scored touchdowns in the win.
“We’ve played really well up to this point,” said Noel Rash, Beechwood head coach. “We’re like every other high school team. We have work to do. Our (Point-After Touchdown) thing really has to get cleaned up. I’m very proud of our guys. But it’s early. Like I’ve always said, we have to fall in love with the grind because those dog days, bigger opponents and the heat coming at us.”
Senior standout Mitchell Berger scored three touchdowns behind Beechwood’s solid offensive line and senior Antonio Robinson, Jr. added two. Liam McCormack and sophomore Chase Flaherty had one each.
“Day in and day out, we’re just putting the work in,” Berger said. “The offensive line was making holes. I hit them, made a guy or two miss and was off to the races. The offensive linemen work their tails off to get us the yards.”
Beechwood travels to Somerset (2-0) on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Ludlow 46, Lockland (Ohio) 21
Ludlow (2-0) won the battle of the Panthers outgaining Lockland, 367-213 in total offense including 367-65 on the ground.
Senior Jaxson Rice led Ludlow rushing for 148 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns. Freshman Dameyn Anness added five carries for 104 yards and two touchdowns with senior Jaylen Bridges rushing for 96 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown.
Ludlow has next week off before traveling to Paris (2-0) on Sept. 9. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Walton-Verona 14, Holy Cross 0
The Bearcats (2-0) outlasted the Indians (1-1) outgaining them, 256-160 in total offense.
Senior Christopher Harward led Walton-Verona with 13 carries for 75 yards and junior fullback Ben Teipe scored a rushing touchdown. Junior quarterback Jackson Smith completed 8 of 15 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown to junior wide receiver Max Montgomery. Montgomery finished with five catches for 56 yards.
Junior quarterback Landyn Phillips led the Indians offensively. He rushed for 99 yards on 19 carries and completed 6 of 15 passes for 48 yards.
Walton-Verona travels to Grant County (0-2) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Holy Cross plays at Scott (1-1) at 7 p.m.
Lloyd Memorial 47, Grant County 20
The Juggernauts (1-1) ventured to Dry Ridge and knocked off the Braves (0-2) outgaining them, 343-196 in total offense.
Lloyd did most of it on the ground with 280 yards to 92 for Grant County. Freshman running back Nishawn Golsby led the way with eight carries for 66 yards and junior wide receiver John Crim had two for 63 yards and a touchdown as 13 Juggernauts had at least one carry.
Lloyd travels to Providence (Indiana) on Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Newport Central Catholic 19, Holmes 6
The Thoroughbreds earned their first win of the season taking down the Bulldogs. Both teams are now 1-1 on the season.
NewCath outgained Holmes, 219-199 in total offense. The Thoroughbreds had 104 rushing and 115 passing compared to 143 rushing and 56 passing for the Bulldogs.
Junior quarterback Kolton Smith completed 8 of 16 passes for 115 yards for NewCath. Junior running back Demetrick Welch scored both touchdowns for the Thoroughbreds. He rushed for 70 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown, caught a 23-yard touchdown pass and had an interception.
Senior running back Curtez Hill led the Bulldogs with 75 yards rushing. He ran for a 70-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
NewCath travels to Roger Bacon (Ohio) on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game. Holmes plays host to Boone County on Friday at 7 p.m.
Woodford County 43, Campbell County 13
The Yellow Jackets (2-0) scored the game’s first 37 points on their way to the win over the Camels (1-1). Woodford County had seven yards of 53 or more and five passes of 17 yards or more.
Senior defensive back Ty Cigolotti scored the first points for the Camels as time expired in the third quarter. Woodford County tried a 39-yard field goal. But the kick was low and hit the back of a Woodford County offensive lineman. Cigolotti picked it up and ran 81 yards for a touchdown.
The Camels play host to Highlands (0-2) at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Dayton 52, Pendleton County 12
The Greendevils evened their record at 1-1 running for 313 yards all on the ground. Senior Landyn Hopper rushed for 243 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns for an average of just more than 22 yards per carry for Dayton.
Dayton travels to (Frankfort) Western Hills (0-2) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Pendleton County (0-2) plays host to Newport (1-1) next week.
Metcalfe County 42, Bellevue 0
The Tigers (0-2) were shut out for the second time in as many games on the road against the Hornets (2-0). Metcalfe County outgained Bellevue, 262-70 in total offense.
But freshman quarterback Tristan Woodyard provided a bright spot for the Tigers completing 11 of 22 passes for 81 yards. Freshman wide receiver Eddie Bivens had five catches for 42 yards.
Bellevue travels to Bishop Brossart (1-1) on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.
Scott at Boone County Suspended
The Eagles (0-1) and Rebels (1-0) will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday after the failure of two light towers with 8:12 left in the third quarter. Scott leads 13-7 and will have the ball at its own 40 with a 2nd-and-8.
