The Cincinnati Bengals will be getting a second helmet, according to Ryan Holmes, the team’s director of corporate partnerships, who spoke Tuesday at the NKY Chamber of Commerce’s Eggs ‘N Issues event.

Holmes said at the event that longtime Bengals suite holder, Jack Wells, will aid the Bengals in some way with their helmet unveiling. Wells is the co-founder of the Boone County Distilling Company.

“It’s kind of tied to another announcement we’re going to have at 10:30 today around a second helmet, so kind of a new helmet tied to our uniforms,” Holmes said at Tuesday’s Eggs ‘N Issues. “We launched the uniforms last year. Our fans have been itching for an alternate helmet. The league (NFL) approved that.”

The Bengals have not yet made an official announcement. LINK reached out to the organization for comment, but has not yet heard back.

Bengals fans on social media have long discussed their support for the team to add a white helmet. Fan-made uniform concepts have circulated around Twitter and Instagram in the past, featuring the white helmet as part of an all-white “snow tiger” uniform combination.

The NFL instituted a “one-helmet” rule in 2013 that required teams to wear one helmet throughout an entire season. The NFL phased out the “one-helmet” rule after the 2021 season.

Teams can now experiment with different alternate and throwback uniform styles. For example, the white “Patriot Pat” helmets will make their ceremonious return to the New England Patriots uniform arsenal. The Patriots announced these uniforms would return earlier this year.

Earlier Tuesday, the Houston Texans unveiled their “Battle Red” helmets. The Texans traditionally wear navy blue helmets.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could bring back their infamous “creamsicle” jerseys from the 1970s, featuring a white helmet. The Buccaneers haven’t worn that uniform combination in game since 2012. Buccaneers owner Malcolm Glazer lobbied the NFL to change the ”one-helmet” rule for years.
