No tale of two halves between Bishop Brossart and Notre Dame.
For now.
There was no winner Wednesday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Alexandria, and no goals to separate the two teams. Just 40 minutes of soccer between the No. 2 Pandas and No. 9 Lady ‘Stangs before lightning in the area suspended the top-10 showdown at halftime.
For two teams that have been finding ways to win all season, something had to give.
It just didn’t happen in the first half.
Brossart (5-3-1) entered the matchup averaging 3.6 goals per game and managed six shots against the Pandas, putting four on goal. Notre Dame goalkeeper Matilda Gerdes was up to the challenge, making four saves to keep the Lady ‘Stangs off the scoreboard.
But the Pandas’ defense has been just as difficult to crack.
Notre Dame (8-2) had recorded five shutouts entering the game and had allowed no more than one goal in each of their other five games, including their two losses.
Brossart wasn’t the only team looking for a breakthrough.
Notre Dame finished the half with six shots, although only two were on goal. Lady ‘Stangs goalkeeper Emma Ritter turned away both, keeping the game scoreless heading into the weather delay.
The matchup is expected to be made up, with a date to be determined based on the availability of both teams.
