The 36th District champion Highlands Bluebirds baseball team (21-16 overall) drew the Ryle Raiders (17-18) in the 9th Region quarterfinals Saturday at UC Health Stadium in Florence at 6:30 p.m.

Highlands split two games against Ryle during the regular season. The Bluebirds won 8-1 in Union on May 14 before losing 8-5 at Highland Park on May 26.
The semifinals take place Sunday at 1 and 4 p.m. with the title game Monday at 7 p.m. The winner gets either Dixie Heights or Covington Catholic in the latter game Sunday.
The Highlands softball team (28-9) drew Cooper (21-13) at Winkler Field on Saturday at 11 a.m. Highlands lost 13-9 to Cooper on May 15 at the same spot.
The winner takes on either Dixie Heights or Beechwood on Monday at 7 p.m. at Dixie Heights. The title game is Wednesday at the same time back at Dixie Heights.
State Tennis:
The Highlands freshmen doubles team of Eli Back and Eli Hornsby lost 6-1, 6-1 to South Oldham junior Jordan Cordrey and senior Matthew Thomas in the third round of the state tournament at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville.
Back and Hornsby were the first Highlands doubles team to make it that far since 2012. The Bluebirds finished the season 20-2 and finished 9th Region runner-up as a team.
