ALS United Ohio is expanding its impact in the region by adding services and upcoming fundraising events in Northern Kentucky. The organization is building upon their existing presence in Ohio, allowing them to provide more families and individuals who are impacted by ALS with comprehensive support and advocacy, including providing equipment, professional case management, financial grants, small group support, education, and advancing research to help end ALS.
“Expanding our footprint into Northern Kentucky is a major milestone for ALS United Ohio,” said Marlin K. Seymour, ALS United Ohio President & CEO. “It allows us to extend vital, life-changing resources to families and caregivers who need it most. Incredible work is already underway across the region and we’re proud to build on that momentum to ensure every person impacted by ALS has access to the critical resources and care they deserve.”
To support the organization’s mission in Northern Kentucky, two major fundraising events are already scheduled.
First, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 30 a Christmas in July event at Blessed Sacrament Parish located at 2409 Dixie Highway, Fort Mitchell, KY 41017 will be hosted by the family of Dr. Thomas Huller, a retired Park Hills-based dentist who was diagnosed with ALS. Dr. Huller will be selling his new children’s Christmas book “The Jack Story” with all proceeds going to support the mission of ALS United Ohio. The book, based on a Huller family story told around the holidays, will be stamped with his signature upon purchase.
“Our family is excited to celebrate the launch of ‘The Jack Story’ in support of the vital work ALS United Ohio does in our community,” said Annie Pollock, Dr. Huller’s daughter. “We’ve experienced firsthand the impact ALS has on patients and loved ones and we’re honored to be able to give back to an organization that does so much for those in need. We’re proud to share this story and beloved holiday tradition in our family with others as a special way to honor my dad.”
Additional festivities at this family friendly event include raffles and giveaways, an on-site photo opportunity with Santa Claus, a Christmas selfie photo booth, and a Christmas card writing station, with all cards going to support people with ALS. Light refreshments will be provided.
The second fundraising event will become an annual event hosted directly by ALS United Ohio, with Smoke Justis as this year’s Presenting Sponsor. On October 4 at Pioneer Park located at 3952 Madison Pike, Covington, KY, 41017, ALS United Ohio will officially kick off WalkALS, a walk bringing together the community to help raise awareness and fundraise for individuals living with ALS and their families. The new annual event will feature an easy walk route, food and beverage trucks, character and mascot appearances, face painting, balloon twisting, sponsor tents, and live music from Bronson Arroyo.
