Fans celebrating at a World Cup match.

US searches for World Cup flights have jumped more than 500% in the past month. Climbing from around 814,000 to 4.9 million month-on-month, according to Google search data. As the tournament reaches the semi-finals, fans are clearly weighing up a last-minute trip once they see whether their team makes it through.

Skyscanner has utilized its proprietary travel and forecasting data to uncover what following the tournament to each of the last four matches will actually cost soccer fans who wish to attend. Adding up an average return flight from the US and a three-night hotel stay over the match dates:

Dallas (Semi-Final 1, July 14): $1,147
Atlanta (Semi-Final 2, July 15): $1,570
Miami Gardens (3rd Place, July 18): $1,731
New York/New Jersey (Final, July 19): $2,918

Dallas comes out as the best value by some margin, at less than half the cost of travelling for the Final. The value holds up once you’re there too, with the average spend for a meal, drinks and local transport coming to a total of $126 per day – more affordable than Atlanta ($152), Miami ($166), and New York/New Jersey ($187).

Skyscanner has also put together a full guide to each host city, covering how to get there, where to stay, where to eat, what’s on for fans without tickets, and what’s worth doing once you’re there, from Dallas barbecue to the Atlanta Beltline to Queens’ food scene in New York.
