Falmouth, KY. – Members of the Northern Kentucky Nurses Honor Guard stopped by Peoples Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, to visit Funeral Home Owner Mr. Jonathon Peoples and Funeral Pre-Planning Consultant, Mr. Christopher Kuhnen.
Established in September 2021, The Northern Kentucky Nurses Honor Guard is a volunteer organization of active and retired nurses that pay tribute to fallen colleagues, who have dedicated their lives to the profession of nursing, at their funerals or memorial services. Services are performed at no cost and feature the traditional Nightingale Tribute, a final roll call, and the lighting of a Nightingale lamp.
The tribute typically lasts around five minutes and includes the following meaningful traditions:
• Traditional Uniform: Members dress in classic white uniforms, caps, and distinct blue capes.
• Nightingale Tribute: The recitation of a poem honoring the caregiver’s years of service and dedication.
• White Rose: A white rose is placed on the casket or urn to symbolize unity.
• Final Call to Duty: The nurse’s name is called three times, a triangle rings, and the Nightingale lamp is extinguished, officially releasing them from their earthly duties.
Jonathon Peoples made a substantial donation in honor of all the fallen nurses of the local area to Ms. Diane Davis-Cain, Coordinator of the NKY Nurses Honor Guard. Diana was accompanied by Honor Guard Co-Founder, Barb Lehman.
The local group frequently serves nurses across the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area, including Boone, Campbell, Owen, Pendleton, Gallatin, and Grant Counties. To arrange for them to conduct a memorial service ask any Peoples FH Funeral Director or visit NKY Nurses Honor Guard Facebook Group.
