BURLINGTON, Ky. — Boone County Public Library invites the community to attend Celebrating America’s 250th with Boone County Public Library, an opening ceremony for two new outdoor exhibits on Sunday, June 28 at 2 p.m. at the Main Library, 1786 Burlington Pike in Burlington.
The event will celebrate the near completion of Patriots, Pioneers & Places that Transformed the County: History Walk and In Words & Actions, We Rise: Celebrating American Trailblazers, two permanent outdoor exhibits that highlight the people, places and stories that helped shape Boone County, Kentucky and the nation.
The ceremony will include remarks from project partners and community leaders, followed by an opportunity for visitors to explore both exhibits. Together, the History Walk and mural installation connect local history with broader national narratives, encouraging reflection on the individuals whose words, actions and advocacy influenced the course of American history.
The History Walk features interpretive panels highlighting significant Boone County people and places, while the mural exhibit showcases American trailblazers who advanced freedom, justice and equality. Both exhibits include QR codes that allow visitors to access additional historical content.
“These projects create new opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with history in a meaningful way,” said Carrie Herrmann, Executive Director of Boone County Public Library. “As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, we are proud to provide spaces that encourage learning, reflection
and community connection.”
The projects were made possible through support from the Kentucky Historical Society, the Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, with state tax dollars from the Kentucky General Assembly and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
