Officials from the statewide Dependable Power First Kentucky coalition issued the following statement on the recent announcement of Eric King as executive director of the Energy Planning and Inventory Commission (EPIC) — aimed at developing a comprehensive, long-term energy plan for the Commonwealth.
“Congratulations to Eric King on his appointment to lead the critically important work of EPIC,” said Katelyn Bunning, executive director of Dependable Power First Kentucky. “His nearly two decades of experience in navigating energy policy, federal advocacy and utility sector engagement will be a tremendous asset, as the commission seeks to preserve grid reliability, protect local ratepayers and promote economic growth in Kentucky.”
In 2024, the Kentucky General Assembly established EPIC to review the state’s current and future power supply, evaluate the impacts of federal policy and severe weather events, and consider the retirement or continued operation of coal and natural gas power plants. Its mission is to ensure Kentucky families and businesses have access to affordable, reliable energy well into the future.
“Now more than ever, a commonsense, all-of-the-above approach to energy policy is vital, as we face a rapidly escalating demand for electricity nationwide,” added Bunning. “Our coalition members look forward to collaborating closely with Eric and the EPIC board to ensure that the Commonwealth maintains its traditional competitive advantage when it comes to delivering a dependable and affordable power supply for all Kentuckians.”
Dependable Power First Kentucky is a statewide coalition working to promote a reliable, resilient, and affordable electricity supply for all Kentuckians by bringing together diverse stakeholders from across the state to shift the conversation around reliability and support policies that achieve this goal.
